Today was the day to move the ER out of the RC24 tank and into the next tank......from the RC15 I received last week. This tank is cosmetically challenged but can be saved plus I presume was the original tank that came on the bike and I have the correct key for the fuel cap.

After removing the ER from the RC24 tank I washed it out with water and then dropped some MMO in it to help with any flash rusting. It looks fantastic inside so stoked about that.

Here is the material left over after draining out the ER.

Speaking of tanks, I stuck my endscope inside the Blue tank that came with the parts/donor bike last week and was able to (barely) verify it had the same key code as the ignition key and the helmet lock/seat release lock - D21. Why go to all this trouble? Because I couldn't get the fuel cap lock to turn and needed some verification that I had the right key. So I figured here's another gummed up lock that will need treatment.

So that tank is now upside down with a gallon of ER in it.

Hot out today......Koko-Nut found some shade while Daddy sweated his tail off....lol....

Also, the RC24 I got last week came without a key or key code. The tank had no fuel cap either. No worries, got a new fuel cap on her with keys. But what about the ignition? I knew I could get the key code from either the ignition assy. or the seat release/helmet holder lock. The latter seems to be the easiest to access so last night I removed the tail frame assembly and using a Dremel cut disc got the lock bracket loose enough to read the key code (C33). Next up will be sending an order in for new keys, which 'should' in theory fit the ignition. This bike will have 2 keys then - fuel cap and ignition/seat release/helmet holder.

I know - the bike needs a bath too.......baby steps......

Trying to get some of this stuff resolved while navigating the freaking heat and my other time constraints. Heck - you should see the work I've already put in processing all the parts I got last week. Time consuming but is worth it in the long run for someone like me with so many bikes that need work done on them.

Last night for example I replaced the alternator gasket on the White '87 I brought up from South Florida and got running. I had taken the cover off as part of the process of getting her running again and guess the old gasket wasn't in good enough condition to do it's job. Hey sometimes they are- and sometimes they aren't. Fortunately I had a brand new replacement gasket that came with a bunch of parts I bought from Joe Nelson. And the best part is because I invested some time in organizing my spare parts - I knew where I had it!

Hey you know what works great getting old paper gaskets off? Those razor knives they sell at HF for a buck. :)

Not to sound corny but I hate to see these incredible bikes in a forgotten state. They deserve more. Heck, I'm as guilty as anyone else too as when I couldn't get my clutch working right I parked mine in my garage where it sat for years.

We'll have some cooler weather at year's end and that will be "go time". Like I said, right now just trying to keep going on some of it. Long ways to go....thanks!

My local mice population have shown a preference for paper filters, the Uni foam filter seems less appealing.

Been meaning to get some more of the O-rings that fit between the fuel sensor base and the tank. I remember Capt 80's mentioning a place he gets a lot of o-rings from so I did a Google search and found some I think will work from "O-Rings And More". The OEM part number is 91305-MC7-000 and they are still available - $3.17 ea. from Partzilla - and other places sell them too. The specs are 39.5mm (ID) x 5mm. The ones I found that are the closest to that size were 40mm x 5mm, from "O-Rings and More" for only 37 cents each. So I ordered their minimum of 5 plus 5 each of the same 5mm but 38mm and 39mm just to make sure I had something that would work. Total for all 15 O-Rings plus shipping was $11.90.

Tonight I took them out to test fit and seems like the 40mm versions would work the best so I went ahead and used one on the Blue tank I am working with. So far - no leaking! I also plugged up the two nipples and the petcock openings. If there is still no leaking by tomorrow I will go ahead and fill the rest of the way with ER.

That silver stuff you see is Never Seize. I had brass brushed the surface rust off and wanted to coat the area with something to halt the rust for now.

Before I do that I might stick a brush down inside and try to clean off some of the crud surrounding the fuel cap. Because I still can't get the lock to open. Plenty of time left to work on it - baby steps.....

    100%!

I placed my order last Thursday afternoon......and it arrived today, only 4 days later.

They sent me confirmation or my order right away..... then shipping confirmation w/tracking # the next morning at 9am.

They are located in Virginia and order was sent USPS Ground Advantage.

I will be posting a positive review for them and can't wait to snoop around their website and see what else I can use for my next order.

I also ordered from a different company some duplicate keys on Sunday and received notification they shipped today, so will post an update on those when they arrive. I have done business with them before and they are great to use. One of the keys is supposed to fit the RC24 I just got that came without any keys, so excited to see if it works.

And.......I have some decals for the RC24 coming from Canada that are due here at end of week and will post an update on those. From what I can tell, they will be the real deal, so I'm pretty excited.
