Acceptable coolant loss due to temp?

After I changed the coolant on my 7th gen, it seems that the overflow tank is a bit low.

Since the cooling system on the 7th gen isn't sealed, is it possible that coolant is being lost due to expansion?
The engine is certainly as hot (as I've read other folks are dealing with), but still within the acceptable range for on the temp gauge.

 

Unlikely. More likely there was a bit of air left in the system after you changed the coolant, that the Bike has now burped, and taken some of the reserve from the expansion tank.

The coolant systems on my three Honda's (2 x VFR800 and ST1300) are set and forget. There may be a very tiny amount of vapour loss through the expansion tank overflow but it is negligible. However, it is not at all uncommon for a bit of residual air to remain in the system after a coolant replacement, that should rise to the high point (the radiator cap) and then get pushed to the expansion tank, so the expansion tank will drop down a bit as the system cools and sucks back, after the first decent run. After that the expansion tank level should be static.
