Hi guys. I was tending to a clutch leak on my 1998 VFR800, when I noticed a small divot at the bottom of the case on my clutch slave cylinder, it’s located at the 6 o’clock position. Here’s what it looks like. The new gasket is just flat with no provision for a divot. Has anyone run into this issue before?

It's not a flaw, it's a feature. It's a weep hole to let you know if your clutch rod seal is leaking instead of filling up that cavity.

Ok hmmm, so you’re saying there should be no hydraulic fluid in there? I wonder what is the purpose of the gasket…….

There shouldn't be either in there, oil or hydraulic fluid. Hyd fluid - your slave needs attention. Oil - your clutch rod oil seal needs attention.

They have put a gasket on the slave cylinder when it is not really "sealing" anything, it is just something Honda likes to do with aluminum on aluminum love. It also just helps keeping some shit out of there from above. Not much can go up thru a 6 o-clock hole, and if it does, it drains back out.

Makes sense, I guess I will rebuild the slave cylinder again, it was just done about 2 years ago. The hydraulic fluid is coming out of the weep hole. Thanks.
