I was quoted in 2025 $3100 for a 16K service including $1750 for 10 hours of a technicians time to check the valves. Is this a reasonable estimate because 10 on-the-clock hours seems like a lot of time?

10 hours is long time, too long for just a VETC check and adjust, who’s doing it for that kind of money, Batman?

FWIW I paid Fowlers £800 for the 16k check in 2017

It took me about 2 hours per cylinder head, and I am far from a professional. That gets the standard valves checked, the cams out and VTEC stoppers in, cams back in, VTEC clearance checked, cams out to remove the stoppers, and then cams back in. But...if the VTEC valves are out of spec, you need to buy new cam buckets, and that might delay the rebuilding process unless they have stock, and they are costly (I needed 7 @ USD25 each).

Adding to what Terry said... At 16k it's highly doubtful any valves are out of spec.... Probably fine to wait to 32k for a check...

The 16k valve check was changed to 24k some years ago
