I got the commercial thickness (they're blowing out the standard thickness for less). It is jack approved. If I had weight on something sharp, like a jack stand, I'd probably put a small board under that. 9' x 16' $300 delivered. CHEAP!

At Winn Dixie today saw a young guy with one of these - a 2014 RC79 in White! So I walked over to have a chat. Gorgeous & CLEAN bike and really chill young fella. Hope he was a bit stoked to get a atta boy/thumbs up from an old timer like me.

Thats pretty funny... cuz it's very true.

They (we) usually know the bikes really good by now, and the bike still has enough performance to back it up and surprise/embarrass people.

I had a V4 Ducati rider not too keen on pulling up next to me at the stop sign at the end of a particular road (when he finally arrived). He just stayed back there and waited after I waved him forward.

He thought he was the shit in all of his matching Tri-Colore. Pretty sure just his leathers cost more than my bike.

 

$ and skill are rarely related, from my experience. Then there's the risk one is comfortable taking.

 

I watched him take plenty of risk on the previous road... in the weirdest places. He had horsepower and that was about it.

1983 Honda VF750F Interceptor

77 rear-wheel horsepower. Chassis that actually handled. Adjustable everything. Built to form basis of Honda's AMA Superbike program. Closest thing to race bike you could buy in 1983. Changed what sport bikes could be.

I had one of those, back in the day. I borrowed it for an evening test ride from the dealership I was working part-time at, but managed to crash it at unmentionable speed due to a combination of youthful exuberance and excessive front brake pressure, basically I locked the front wheel in a straight line and did a Superman dive onto the road while the bike pirouetted down the road on the right side like a Mexican firework. I "bought" the bike the next day, got my parts at cost and fixed 'er right up. I never had a cam problem (that I knew of) but the tensioners failed once and as an impoverished student, I decided I couldn't afford that again so we parted ways.
