Hello everyone, I'm new here but have done a bunch of reading in the last couple weeks. A friend of mine traded me a 91 VFR for a yamaha four wheeler that I had. It has some scuffs but it is presentable. I'm very excited to get this bike, there is no better sound than a pissed off gear driven V4:eek: I have had many bikes and this is my second VFR, I had an 86 750 years ago. I would have put this in new intros but I have problems already. Big suprise it doesn't charge:rolleyes: . It also has a Two Brothers pipe and maybe a full header, it exits on the left side?? It leaks somewhere close to the rear cylinders. Will any other years pipes fit? I can't find an aftermarket full system for a 90-93?? It's going to need tires and a fork seal but all that seems simple. The charging issue is what could get spendy. Does anyone have the testing procedures for the rectifier and the alternator? The r/r seems to be the original unit with no fins and blistered silicone visible. No big suprise but I would like to check the rest of the system. I have already learned a bunch from the archives on this site so I need to thank you for the stupid questions I may ask... thnx!

The exhaust leak sounds repairable. The R/R is toast. Buy a new one from an online parts distributor. There are aftermarket R/R's too. Avoid Oregon Honda Dealerships unless you have money to burn.
