Looks like VFRD is no more, hard server crash and not going to be resurrected. Owner posted notice to FB group.

    RIP VFRDiscussion.com

Oh shit. Prepare for some more traffic. Hopefully smart, engaging members come here more often. The rest can go to FB.

I have no idea if it's possible but I wonder if Miguel has the ability to message the global vfrdiscussion community using email. I suspect not but many of us don't use FB and it will be a while before the message filters down.

Suddenly have a sense of an old, good friend has died.

There will likely be a behind the scenes move by a couple people to try and secure the rights. The last time it was threatened there were a few.

The vfrd.com domain expires this year but Miguel said the database backups were corrupted, no backup newer than a year ago, the drive array crashed, etc, etc. So someone else may resurrect it but they'll be starting the site from scratch.

There was a formatting and maybe host change to the website on my Monday and it looked good to me, but since then I haven't been able to log in.

Sad, but not surprising. Miguel has done a great job building that community, but some things must pass. Unfortunately, that seems to be the way of a lot of the older, once great forums. FB is not the best, but at least it keeps some things alive. I have met lifelong friends that I consider family on that site and I'm sad to see it gone.

Nothing to do with money....just a huge server crash wiped it out into thin air.

Well... fuck. When it was back up on Monday with a new look, I was like, "whew".

That was a fucke-tonne of documented knowledge. When this place goes, I will probably take over HawkGTForum "Other Bikes" just to document builds and tips until they get sick of me.

If the future is FB, then my timeline stops. Can't do it.

I am toasting one to VFRDiscussion! Thanks Miguel, it was a great ride.

Very well put Mike. I also contacted Miguel through FB and confirmed what others have said: VFRD is no more, it has ceased to be. It has expired, and gone to meet its maker.

I completely agree that FB can never replace the forum system; it is like staring through a letterbox at the world.

As a serial hoarder, I have a reasonable collection of downloaded service manuals but mainly those that had special interest for me. Is there a place to leave these on this forum for others to find?
