I understand and feel the same way but this was the transporter and he was a big man so no way am I telling him what kind of shoes he should be wearing...lol.

He had a pretty trick rig and had just dropped off two cars the stop before me in Palm Coast and was heading to S. Florida to drop off the rest of the bikes. One of which - covered in plastic - had a set of wheels that ran $35K for both!

The Love Bugs are out now too so the front of his vehicle is probably a mess right now.

I did politely press him on why the pickup had run late and he said his wife insisted they go see "The Devil Wears Prada, Part II" the night before he was supposed to leave so he was late getting on the road the next day. He lives in Las Vegas and mostly just transports in Texas. It caused a little undue confusion on Sunday but otherwise the transport was flawless....although pricier than I expected.

eBay score this morning......one year only starter clutch assembly for the '86 RC24 and RC26. Paid $133.89 delivered from a UK seller. Over half of that is for taxes, shipping, and import duty.

    Hen's teeth!

Brake work today. In part for that Round gauge 700 I just got - but also went ahead and worked on a bunch of stored up brake masters I already had.

I decided they will all need new internals so I am going to strip them all down so I have all the parts in separate baggies for further needs.

But wait.......after trying all 8....I could only get the snap ring out of 1! So they are now sitting in my dish drainer with a pool of PB Blaster in the socket where the o-ring resides.

Earlier I soaked the entire assemblies in a Simple Green solution, so hoping that will also help.

Luckily I am not relying on any of these for the '86. I have those assemblies set aside for possible rebuild but also some here may remember the ones I got from the salvage yard guy with the short adjustable handles? Well I replaced those goofy little handles (one was even bent) with OEM and they look great, so I'm thinking they could also work on the '86.

I had a chance today to go back and look at the brake stuff I have on hand so that was helpful. I know I have some complete assemblies bagged up also - at least one set - so will try to pull those out tomorrow to eyeball.

I still have the front brake calipers to do - but am making decent progress, all things considered.

My house went from O-dey-petrol to O-dey-PB Blaster last night.....lol......scented candles to the rescue! I gave the o-ring sockets another blast of blaster this morning and they will sit for most of today while I attend to other things.

Santa made an early morning delivery! One is already on the charger.

Well I learned something new. The bike I got from Cold Devil a year ago developed a problem not being about to get any RPM's up after starting so it sat for a while. It's one of the bike's I really wanted to get going this year so it went on the list. Since I have owned it - the starter wouldn't turn over unless the clutch lever was pulled in. I thought that was something unique to that year/model and Honda made changes in subsequent year/models. I'd just have to live with it.

So the other day after putting in a new battery - the dang clutch lever was near impossible to pull in - thus trying to get her started was impeded! I figured I needed to find a way to bypass the safety switch for the time being so I could focus on getting her started.

Turns out.....there is a thing called a CLUTCH DIODE that can go bad. It's attached to the harness just forward of the battery. I had a spare harness here so grabbed that diode and took it to the storage unit tonight - swapped it out and boom.....she turns over just fine now without anything to do with the clutch lever.

Next step will be hooking up a fuel bottle to see if I can get her started. If not the carbs will be coming off. I have another '86 but an F2 I need to also fuel bottle test - so can do both tomorrow.

I will fiddle around with the clutch tomorrow as well.

Long day but I'm pretty stoked right now!

Here's what that clutch diode looks like......

Where's Grum when we need him? This is the starter circuit for my 800 but they're all basically the same. Apologies if you already know all this.

In order for the starter solenoid to be energised (and make the starter motor spin), you need an earth pathway for the solenoid coil. That can be either through the neutral switch or through the clutch switch and the sidestand switch. If the clutch switch is FUBAR (or you can't haul in the lever) then jumpering between the wires that go onto the spade terminals will bypass it, and if you are really stuck you ought to be able to jumper just one of those wires (G/R) to an earth, bypassing the clutch and the sidestand. Or just jumper the green/red terminal at the solenoid and bypass all of the safety devices that stop us starting the bike in gear on the sidestand...

The diodes are needed in this circuit so we can have the lovely green neutral light on the dash. Diodes act as a one-way system for current, without a diode the neutral light would come on if the stand was up and clutch in. starter.jpg
