Thanks! Feels good to finally get some of the stuff done I wanted to get to this winter - and didn't.

Those infill panel screws weren't wanting to go in so I even pulled out my tap and die set to clear out the threads.

Damn good set to have on hand when working on these old girls!

Ha - I know. It sat on my lift table here after I used it on an engine case on another bike. Under canopy but still exposed to the salt air.

The rest of the set is still perfect! :D

If only you had some liquids around there that removes rust.

I mentioned earlier I have been working on my spare parts.....cleaning and re-organizing. In particular the brake and clutch masters. I decided to break them all down to their individual parts...which is needed anyway to clean them. Then baggie them up and put them in my spares department.

That ER stuff is great for the metal items. Simple Green for the other stuff and also just warm sudsy water and a soft bristle brush. The objective to get rid of old dried brake fluid crud and residue.

The last photo is one of the lower fairings I worked on replacing two of it's inner duct posts. Every one of my spares now have fully functioning inner duct posts w/hardware. I use a couple different tools to help with this along with new inserts like they use with 3D printing. Pretty cool and easy to do - just a bit time consuming.

Thanks, Six. Lot of fairing work yesterday. Just trying to get these used parts more use-able. Some I will be needing myself going forward!

Managed my first win in the 25 min "GTL" race last weekend at Blackhawk Farms. That was cool. Most of the really fast people sit out the 25min races and just do sprints, but I'll take it.

Right after, I tried jumping on my girlfriend's CB100. Went to kickstart it and the f*********** kickstart shaft just snapped. So now I'm splitting the cases and learning what's involved in doing a sensible rebuild of the whole damn engine since it's a case-splitting activity to resolve this. No good deed goes unpunished, right? haha

Need to order some new BT46's, figure out how to put number plates on the VF500F, maybe just turkey pan a belly pan on. Mid Ohio in about a month should be a go on the 500. I need the CB100 done by then or I'm in trouble.

Sucks about the starter arm shaft, Matt - but that pic of you on the 500 is awesome! Always enjoy seeing your postings! :)

It's alright. It's the motivation I need to start rebuilding some of the engine projects I have. And that pic is of the 690, but the color scheme is pretty similar to my 500.

I'm pumped to see where you've taken the VFR700 and the rest of your projects. Just keeping up on this thread and the others. You've got that bike looking gooooood!

Oops...sorry I know you did some body work on both bikes so didn't even think about it being the 690. Thanks for the correction!

And yeah - took me a while on the 700 but finally got to her and glad I did. You did so much on her mechanically - it was criminal not to take her to the finish line.

And I will be swapping the headlight cowl and fuel tank out for better ones and will post new pics here. She REALLY runs GREAT, Matt. And of course that Yoshi sounds sooooo good! :)

Might be able to mount some number plates off the rear grab handles / turn signal stays. They have some threaded holes on the bottom edge to mount some brackets. And some motocross number plate background and numbers on the windscreen.

This was an extra screen that I painted the background.

I did not know that about the grab handles. I shall do some investigating when I get home--thank you for the pic and motivation. That windshield looks pretty sweet. I'm going to try my hand at doing white vinyl on it instead of paint. Will be buying extra vinyl because I know attempts #1 and 2 are likely to be crumpled messes. Thanks captain.

Consider doing the shield in two halves (or more!), with some overlap. It will be easier (but not easy) due to the curve, and the seams won't matter, it will mostly be unnoticeable with the numbers on. You might even consider doing some wide horizontal strips, that way your top line is perfect.
