VF1000F tank on 86' VFR700F frame

So after trying to make my original tank work out of the Swiss cheese it was, I finally found my 3rd tank out of Texas after my second tank was stopped by customs coming from Germany for some stupid reason. So, during this whole waiting time, while doing other stuff, I grabbed the tank off my '84 VF1000F to see how it would work on the VFR700 frame. And to tell you, this could be a viable option, as it fits pretty well. See pics.

 

I do see a pretty glaring issue... it doesn't look good at all.

 

Not trying to poo the idea, but I would not want to take a fast corner relying on that tank fitment.

I have done plenty of frankin bikes or Mad Max bikes that can kinda sit good on the bench but you should think of the riding portion as well.

That lower front edge would be tough to blend in properly. A VF750F Interceptor tank may be easier to adapt..

I mean, even if it was compatible mounting-wise - it's not correct for that model - so goes against all forms of purism.

BTW - is that an RC24 or an RC26?

 

It was just a test to see how it would look. I got the TX tank (proper year & model) just the other day and need to clean the inside as its got some chunky old stuff in it. Newer pics to come next week.

Doing another tank today, in fact. I have it filled with water right now to test for any leaks. If no leakage I will dump the water and fill with ER. Then let sit for a few days.
