New VFR owner from Norway

Hello everyone!

As a new member and owner of a VFR 800, I thought I'd introduce myself.

I am a 35 year old man from Norway, specifically the south-eastern part. I have been riding motorcycles for about 10 years now and have owned a lot of different bikes: Suzuki SV650, BMW S1000R, BMW R1200 GSA, Yamaha Tenere 700 and now I have a 2001 VFR 800!

The reason I bought a VFR are several. First of all I have always wanted to own a Honda with that V4 engine, simply because the sound is fantastic. Secondly after owning ADV bikes for the last few years, I started to miss something that is more sporty to ride, but I didn't want to lose the ability to go on trips. While any bike can go on trips, I have seen the benefit of having bikes that are more geared towards it, hence the ADV bikes.

The three last bikes I owned where all newer bikes, and while that is nice in some parts, it also meant I had to partly finance them with loans. Having recently bought a home and having two kids, it I wanted to try getting something a bit cheaper that I could just cash out. Since owning a Honda V4 has been on my list for many years, and the fact that you can get older VFR's for decent money I finally pulled the plug on a blue 5th gen last week.

After riding to work and some shorter trips around the countryside I can safely say I made the right decision. What a great machine! Crazy that a 25 year old bike feels more smooth than my 2021 T7. My plan for the bike right now is just to keep it as is, and hopefully do some camping trips with my SO this summer.

Next year I finally want to realize my dream of driving a motorcycle from Norway and to the Alps. Stay tuned for some updates on trips in the future.

Also looking forward to learn more from all the members experiences and tips on this site. A lot of great information already to read for me!

Welcome aboard Maschev. I'm probably biased but I think a VFR800 represents the most fun per Euro that you can have on two wheels, as well as being remarkably reliable. Make sure to put up some photos of your blue beauty. I have always been jealous of that colour, I don't believe we ever had 800s in that colour in my local market.
