4th generation air filter.

I recently purchased an air filter online for my '97 vfr750 and it does not fit the slots in the housing. My original drops right in and the new one is out of spec in several places. I cannot get it to fit in the slots. It was a cheap generic from Mad Hornets. Does anyone have experience with a reliable air filter supplier for a reasonable price? There are lots on E-Bay but I don't want to wait another 8 days to get one that doesn't fit again. My Honda shop said they OEM are no longer available.
Also, is there a method to clean the dirty old filter?

 

You can buy good, used K&N filters on eBay for about 20-25 bucks plus shipping. Even if you're not a fan, it would better in the short term while looking for a paper element than trying to run a totally plugged stock unit.
