Galfer Braided Brake Lines and Wave Rotors

Michael, I have installed the Galfer wave rotors on the front and I believe Santa may be giving me the single for the rear this year. May I ask where you found the SS brake lines?

Michael, I would love to see some pictures of the braided lines installed. It's got to look sharp!

 

Gotta love them Galfers. Glad you're getting the rear too, it opens up the look of the rear a bit.

If your local shop doesn't carry Galfers, I can get you a price on the SS lines and get a set up to you if you want. I'm friends with a dealer here and can get pretty decent deals.

Unfortunately they don't have good documentation to go with them. Since Galfers USA is local to me, they're going to take my bike for a week and create an install video/instructions using it (they'll be doing the same for Super Blackbird). It's not your ordinary brake line swap, 14 different lines to replace. Things are on hold there til after the holidays, so I expect to have that schedule early next year.

 

During my 954 front end swap last year I also installed the Galfer SS lines and wave rotors. The improvement is hard to put into words. I now know what the magazines meant when they said that a bike had "wooden" brakes. I honestly feel like that my VFR could do stoppies (not that I would). The response is incredible!!! I highly recommend this upgrade.!!! You'll never regret the $$$ you spent on this. Granted I have a 4ht Gen so the install was fairly straight foward, hopefully you guys with the newer bikes will get the video that was mentioned, bleeding them is a different story. I also installed speed bleeders at the same time, another worth while mod. Bleeding is now a 15 minute process for all the brake components.

 

After reading your post my VFR is quite envious, my braking system is the last weak link on my 99 :yo:

I personally didn't think there was anything flat-out "bad" about my 6th gen brakes until I went to the track with it the first time. Having ridden nothing but track bikes with braided lines before, I never experienced the sensation of brakes "going away" on me at the track. Let me tell you, it's not fun! For the street they work just fine but the increased stress/heat from the track really let's you know when it's time to cool it a little. You can actually feel the hoses expanding when they get really hot. Oh well! It's a good time to practice those no break drills

For $300, I'm not sure I want to do it...yet!

I think the brakes on my VFR are much better than my last sportbike, which was a '94 FZR 600. They can always be better though, right? The bike I bought just had new rotors put on, so I may wait for a while before getting the Galfers. I know the BikeBandit.com has them, but does anyone know if there is a better deal around? Not just for the rotors, but the lines as well. Might as well do them all at the same time.

 

try hardracing.com, that's where I got mine from, brake lines, rotors and pads. They were pretty cool. I went with them, as braking.com wouldn't answer their phones, their loss.

 

Anyone install the Galfer Wave discs on an ABS equiped 6th gen? They don't seem to have the holes for the speed sensor to be screwed on, or did I just not get the right one? I see no note on their application chart for ABS equiped models getting different discs. Don't know whether to contact a machine shop, is one even open on a sat? Or breakdown and buy a tap & die kit -- although I have never used one before. Afraid if I use it wrong, I could screw it up...

 

Oh, and I got mine at cyclebrakes.com nice people, dealt with them in the past too. Don't know if they are the absolute best deal out there, but they are good.

 

Guy's I'm looking to buy the SS line kit, rotors and HH Pads but I can't seem to find them listed for the VFR? Any Idea's? Are they the same as some another bike?

I have a question and that's how does the clutch feel now? My clutch is somewhat "odd" in it's feel. I never have liked hydro clutches, but I have to deal with it. Do you get a better feel to yours?

Ok, here's a loaded response... I have Brembo Radial Master Cylinders on my VFR, so the clutch feel is above average. Before I got the Brembo's, I would say that the clutch wasn't bad but wasn't great either. Try a really good bleed of the clutch system, and see if that helps, as air bubbles can give an odd feeling. I personally prefer Hydraulic clutches to cable clutches, but that's just me...

 

I just put Galfers on my Gen 5, but they weren't HH. Mine were the semi-metallic type. It rains a lot here in Sunny Florida! F205/F207

I found the front disks and rear with the pads and ss lines @ knee dsraggers.com. Had to do it!!! It's rained here for like 6 weeks and I have to get out side.....I send way too much indoors! LOL

I want to purchase the Galfer FK003D425 . This one is for ABS version (2002 - 2009)

Do you know if it will fit the non-ABS model ?
What is the difference in terms of brakes lines between ABS and non-ABS version ?

 

No they don't fit. Galfer only makes them for the ABS model....They had send me the ABS set up and I had no idea till it was to late and had pulled the bike apart and nothing fit.
