I dont mind harleys, my dad and uncles have them, not bad to ride, just fun to cruise, not a huge power or sport bike, just a cruiser. I dont like the attitude, but I stopped catching crap from my dad and uncles when we hit canada and an open highway and I lit it up and left them behind before they knew what happened. Then they said that the VFR was cool since, just cruising "It seems calm and quiet, then when you let it rip the bike sounds mean and gets out of dodge".

In short, I dont mind the bikes. I mean, they cost too much, and they have PATENTED inefficiency, but if you are into cruising, they arent bad. Some guys just want to belong, and that is one big gang.

I do hate the guys that wont wave to me. I just want to yell "You should be GLAD I waved at you! I am twice the biker!...... jackass."

I do dig the jumping over cars and buses too! ;)

There are a lot of subtleties here...except one thing is VERY CLEAR AND VERY SIMPLE...and Tori (and others) nailed it. They are WAY too freakin' loud. And they are NOT allowed to be that way (as others have stated here). There ARE laws. Loud cars get ticketed all the time...loud bikes? Hardly ever! A few towns (like Carefree, AZ outside of Scottsdale) have noise ordinances that are enforced (way spendy real estate there...don't disturb the peace of all the rich folks please) but mostly...never! What IS the deal? Why is it tolerated? If someone smokes a joint or runs a stop sign...boom...there is the law. But, insanely loud pipes ruining the peace and the ears in town, out-of-town, in the wilderness, in the State and Federal Parks. THAT makes me mad. The posing and the attitude...I am mildly perturbed but the noise is another thing.:yell: And don't tell me loud pipes save lives! What a joke!
So many times in so many places has MY peace and quiet been disturbed. It is wrong! OK, I'll stop now...

The reason that loud pipes on harley davidsons are often tolerated in many areas are that people expect harley davidsons to be loud. The police in most areas assume that harley davidsons are loud, and, unless they are informed to the contrary, assume that is the way that they are manufactured.

Interestingly enough, for about three years I drove a Porsche 928 that was extremely loud. It had 2 3/4 stainless steel pipe and a Flowmaster Super 40 (Since I couldn't afford a Borla). I also have reason to believe that the previous owner hulled out the catalytic converter. The car was ungodly loud at anything over 2500 RPM, and keep in mind that 928s were V8s.

I was never ticketed or hassled, because it was a luxury/exotic. Neither are most of the straightpiped classic cars, since I am in the middle of good old boy country. God forbid, however, that you are in a Honda with a weedeater exhaust. You generally won't get ticketed, but you will be hassled all day long.

I hate the obnoxiously loud exhaust, the attitude, and the fact that most people buy them simply because they think they are "being real" or some stupid cliche like that.

Most HD buyers (IMO) are like sheep.......

not a fan at all, I have ridden quite a few of them and did not like a single one. 1 Friend of mine has his completely custom $75,000 worth, piece of shit when I rode it. Another has a full dresser, hands shook so bad after 10 minutes thought circulation had stopped to my arms and hands. In general I find them uncomfortable, a lot of noise and nothing to show for it and like stated in this by someone else earlier an image thing, not the fact people just love to go for 2 or 3 hour rides. They go for 15 minutes pull over and have a smoke and look at there bikes, wait for other passer buyers to look as well. So I will stick with my Honda's forever. When I am an old man I will buy a Hold Wing and tour the country. This is just MHO.

Here here, I don't hate Harley's but I do dislike all of those who ride them with the attitude above. Seems to be a lot of them for some reason.

I'm willing to go out on a limb and say most of us in this forum riding VFRs would stop to help out a fellow motorcycle rider on a cruiser if they were in trouble. I can't say the same would occur if a sportbike owner was in trouble and some Harley cruiser types with the attitude above came by. I'm not saying all Harley owners wouldn't stop as most of them would, but there are some with that "attitude" they would just look over and say to themselves, "look at that dude with the broken down sport bike, he probably needs a ride but I don't want his full face helmet wearing a$$ on the back of my chromed out steed....someone in a cage will surely stop to help him out..."

Harley isnt the only company capable of making shitty bikes...
Anybody ever taken a ride on a Victory Hammer?
What a POS! Raked out-fat tired under powered noisy heavy slow and ugly too!
I took a demo ride last summer on the hammer with the 100 c.i. twin, chipped, with a loud pipe (stage 1 kit they call it)
The sales guy told me to "be careful, she's got a lot of power."
I cautoiusly left the parking lot,got on the road, and rolled on the throttle.
    What a disappointment...no power,no torque,and redline at 5000 rpm,that's lower than my car's redline.My 600 Katana would roast this thing!
Weeble wobble handling, gaudy orange tribal paint job,and too much chrome..
When I got back on my VFR after that ride and cracked her open into V-Tec territory.....man it felt good!

I'm curious what you consider torque? That thing has 106lb/ft bone stock. That is roughly double what a VFR makes. I hate cruisers as much as the next guy but I do know the single only thing they offer is torque for days.

    KC-10 FE out...

I don't think I "hate" them. I just don't like them. I dont' have an appreciation for the style or the culture. I don't think they understand ours either. 20 years ago, when I lived in CA, I would find myself on the road with a few Harley's and I would pass them like they were standing still. Then for fun, I would pull over to let them pass me and I would blow by them again and again..LOL. Was pretty immature back then. Funny, come to think of it... the ONLY time I have ever been passed by a Harley was when I was on the roadside taking a break or stopping for coffee. I have fond memories of seeing these "boat anchors" at gas stations leaking oil and vibrating up a storm, not to mention being loud as hell. I honestly don't understand why someone would spend that much money on something so under performing. Just because it's American made??? Who care's about that? What about getting the most for your hard earned dollar? Well, there's my two cents.

The spec sheet might show 106 ft/lbs of torque..but for whatever reason it didn't seem to translate into exciting forward propulsion.
