I hit 45 mph all the time. When I'm really feeling frisky I crack it open all the way to 55...

I saw 138 last summer on a quick backroad blast, then over the next rise after I had already hit the binders, the cop let me go with a warning. Some cops are riders too. q;-) I try to keep it below a "ton" because I enjoy my "privilege" to operate motor vehicles. It's not easy to obey the law tho.

Smooth as glass

My '98 has seen 135mph. And it was as smooth as glass. There was throttle left, but I was on an Iowa backroad late at night -- I decided a close encounter with a deere or cow would not be too exciting.

my 98' has topped at about 155 just under the red, I don't feel safe over 140 which I normally do, anyone wants to do 140 mph for a continuous 15 miles come to corn country ILL, few cops, no traffic and nice paved country roads. Take I-80 west of Lasalle/peru to route 26 or 40 north, seems like forever and lots of fun.

Fast enough for me!

I have a 1999 50th Aniversary VFR800. Last weekend I was running fast at about 180 kph on a particularly nice bit of back road near Mt Gambier when I decided to give it full throttle, It accelerated quickly up to 240 kph (150 mph) and still had a bit more to go. I was very impressed and very scared!

Well I've only been riding a Sport style bike since July so I am still aclimating myself to riding but I have had my '07 RWB up to 130 indicated with what felt like plenty of more top end left.

I live near Philadelphia and did a run the end of summer down to Atlantic City. Trip is 2-4 lane expressway for all but about 3 miles and the weather was in the mid-70's/low humidity and not a cloud in the sky - Perfect. Did the run (85 miles) in 50 minutes door to door which works out to a smidge over 100 mph for 85 miles. There was 1 stretch we were running 120+ for 5-6 miles before catching traffic. I can say once I got to my destination I was just a bit tired from holding that speed for so long.

I was shadowing a Hyundai most the whole way (it was in a big hurry to get to the Beach I guess, and I noticed it was equipped with a radar detector). So if there were any LEO's about I was hoping they would have gotten caught first

we have to remember that power from the wind is primarily a factor that increases by the cube of the velocity, there is no point in riding faster than you can handle cause' you want to stay alive for the next adrenaline rush.

The problem is the body gets used to the adrenaline levels and requires more to feel the same rush, lets stay safe!

I have a '99 VFR800 and a 2000 ZX12R. I took the Kaw to Maxton for top speed runs. I only got to run my qualifying runs because I got there late, but on the last run (where you had to do 175MPH) I looked at my speedo as I passed the traps and it read 202MPH. When I got my time slip, it read 182MPH. The speedometers on bikes a notoriously error prone. You might THINK you're going a lot faster than you really are if you trust your speedometer.

yeah you are right about that, some speedos are off more than others, but you have to know what the calibration is for the individual bike. I have used a GPS to verify speeds, I found my speedo reads about 4 mph higher than actual, so I underate my speed to gauge what I actually did.

Some speedos are off by a perentage, which means the faster you go the more off it reads, but you have a good point that I'm not sure how many others are aware of.

I don't know how fast i was going, however it was uphill and i had just started winding into 5th gear after getting everything out of 4th. I wasn't going to take my eyes off the road for a second. So maybe 130? 96 VFR750.

Powderrecon,
Are you serious? you were out of 4th and into 5th and you didn't even look for a split second to see how fast you were going? I don't believe it, and it was less than 130.

Sam,

I thought the VFR 25th anniversary tri-colour bike just came out, yours can't be the 50th anniversary can it? I can imagine you would have been a tad scared at that speed, and you said it had a bit more to go, how much more, just your estimate?

You simply cannot believe what the speedometer reads; I would say 145mph for my ’94 is all there is I have seen that number but again I don’t think I was actually going that fast. My GPS if I can remember correctly said 138 (the bike had more speed in it). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Had mine to an indicated 135-140 without even thinking about what I was doing. Kinda surprised me. I hit 110 routinely for short stints.

No. I am not serious. For fun, I usually like to lurk internet forums, and lie......Oh no hang on....thats right...i did look down. I was doing 298MPH and I was in 9th gear.

Honestly, I don't get a rush from looking at the speedo. I knew it was fast, and that was good enough for me.

145 indicated, 5th gear, seemed like lots left....
But I ran out of nerve.

I got there quite by accident and was surprised it happened so easily on my way home from work on the freeway.

Speed is what you make of it

I understand you being scared at 135mph.
The first time i went 165 on my cbr929 I wasn't ready for the rush of stuff coming at me.
The key is to find someplace way out in the country with no roads entering and little or no traffic. Try to remember if you tightened all the nuts and bolts on your bike and it you have good tires,,, let er rip. Get as small as you can down behind the windscreen toes on pegs, hug the tank with your knees and go boy!
Never endanger anyone else with you stunts, but if you crash at 100mph your probably dead ,,so why not pin the throttle and see what shes got?
you may only go that fast for 3 or 4 seconds but what a rush!
After that, riding home on the freeway will feel like walking.
I had my cbr929 up to 168 and my blackbird to 176mph and it was smooth as silk.
Just remember closing speeds and to look 1-2 miles ahead.
Then get off the road and go home before John law shoes up.
