    Hey all,
was driving along last week on hwy 380 and saw 8 CHP officers and admired their LED tail lights, they blinked once or twice quickly and then stayed solid on.

I searched around to no avail only found constant blinking or CA approved 4 blinks then solid on.

But I'm sure if the CHPs used them I would be fine. Anyone have a source? I'm looking to add visibility on top of current brake lights. Thanks in advance!

Cops lights are controled by a "brain box" The lights are only that, they have to have a control module. Look on E-bay, but that type won't be cheap. You may be able to have a local electronics shop build you a simple relay brain for less, just to run your blinkers...

wowza. Now those links there, thats a lot of laws and regs! Reminds me of the "It is illegal to shoot whales from a moving vehicle im Maine" law and those of its ilk.

Doesn't seem like that would be that different from the effect you get from tapping your brakes a couple of times (which I do frequently if it is "hard" stop in either my truck or on the bike). Anything that makes some of these clowns see ya.

When I had my BMW there were indeed lights that were for purchase by "registered LEOs only". But you might just go with a brake like modulator like the ones from Kisan, or SDC or a number of other companies. Many companies also sell add on additional brake light mudules of different shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the help so far.....but Those laws man...gives me a headache but here's what I come up with...

CVC 24603. (g) Any vehicle may be equipped with supplemental stoplamps
mounted to the rear of the rearmost portion of the driver's seat in
its rearmost position in addition to the lamps required to be mounted
on the rear of the vehicle.

CVC 25251.5. (a) Any motor vehicle may also be equipped with a system
in which an amber light is center mounted on the rear of a vehicle to
communicate a component of deceleration of the vehicle, and which
light pulses in a controlled fashion at a rate which varies
exponentially with a component of deceleration.
    (c) Any stoplamp or supplemental stoplamp required or permitted by
Section 24603 may be equipped so as to flash not more than four
times within the first four seconds after actuation by application of
    the brakes.

So I plan to fully utilize my lawful rights to equip my vehicle with (what I deem) safer brakelights MWHWHAHAHA  , so...amber brake lights mounted in the center which incorporates a rate which varies exponentially with a component of deceleration and doesn't flash more than four times within first four seconds.... Did I get that right?

Anyone with some relation to law enforcement might help me make sure I'm interpreting them correctly?

I highly doubt any police officer will give you a ticket because you tried to make your ride safer... if you can find them put them on.

Traffic laws are State (Provincial) Legislation. They differ state to state province to province. However you will observe that most jurisdictions traffic laws are very consistent between the US and Canada. Other than 4 ways and signal lights on a vehicle, flashing or modulating lights are generally unlawful. However in B.C. there is an exemption for motorcycles. for the very reason you want to put them on. Safety. Here and in many states, you can have a modulating brake lamp and modulating headlight. And especially the headlight, they are extremely effective in making you more visible.

If they are not allowed in your jurisdiction, don't count on the police not enforcing local legislation. I agree most would bow to common sense when it comes to safety but there are some die hard traffic dudes out there who would not. One thing you definitely want to stay away from is flashing white to the rear, and flashing red to the front, or flashing blue anywhere. Does impersonating a police officer sound like it might fit in here.

Keep it safe from an ex traffic dude (but a good one)

In Tennessee you can flash any lights you want at any rate you want so long as they are not red, green, or blue. I'm looking into putting two HID Strobes in my headlight and wire it to a switch for those times when I know the idiot on his cell phone hasn't seen me yet.

    Hyperlites

The lights we the civilians can buy like that are called Hyperlites.
You can get them from most bike accesory websites and you set the blinking freq when installing the, cost around $50
