    Hello there,

I have a 05 vfr v tec. It started by the exaust fumes smelling fun, usual, or rich. Then there was a constant miss when idling followed by a loss of power and a hard start. I remove the filter and clean it because it was dirty and replace but same problem. Can anybody help me?

As no1 has even said a think in replay I'll have a go at it for you....

HOWEVER i'm a Mazda motorcar tech so don't hold me to it.
When learning in my ten years at my yob I was told start first things first
    S A FP C

S-Spark - cheak the spark and make sure you have a good clean strong spark, cheak the HT leads for damage. You could even go as far and replacing the plugs.....

A-Air flow - The cheaking and replac'in of you air filter was a good call but if it hasnt solved the problem doesn't mean there isn't a problem with the air flow, many things can go wrong for a blocked cat (easy to spot as it will glow red and looks burned on the outside after a long run) Faulty 02 sensor and even right down to a blocked pipe somewhere. get on you knee's and cheak...

FP -fuel pressor - Now this ones a tricky little number as I cant get on my knees due to leg in plaster at the min, I can't tell how the VFR's get the fuel but by the sound of mine when I first turn the key its a fuel pump, just where it is like a said is a problem for me finding at the min but worth a listion.... and again cheak all pipe work u mite be lucky to spot somthing.

C-Compression - this is the big one and im sure a 05 bike souldnt have a problem with compression but the loss oil/water is a sign of a head casket. Thats not the only thing but its the easyest to spot if thats whats up with it.....

I'm not sure if this will get you to the service manual for the vfr800

    http://wiki.vfrworld.com/index.php/Downloadable_Parts_Catalogs_and_Service_Manuals

Ps when you have downloaded it make a data cd with the file and put it somewhere safe you will need it again to do silly tasks im sure.

Its on this site under vfrwiki at the top of the page then Downloadable Parts Catalogs and Service Manuals use the 02 one it will help you.

Anyhow hope that help you out
    Marc

Might help to know what mods you have, if you have a PowerCommander, I would recommend disconnting it and see how she runs. Sound like a similar probelm I had and the PC was bad.

Marc, good calls on all of the suggestions, and never mind the grammar, it is the ideas that matter!

If it was my bike, I would re-load the Power commander map ASAP, since when I had a bad map load on my bike that is EXACTLY what it smelled like.

Some people say all the vacuum tubes/MAP sensor/nonsense up by the airbox can cause problems, so check out those tubes.
