 WoW! That is just bad news. Just out of the dealer. Well my opinion is to replace the broked/ bend parts, repaint the fairings, and install frame sliders to the bike. That's the first thing I did when I got mine, that and a tank pad.

Just ordered the parts that need replacing and will pick those up mid week. Not as painful as I was expecting. $64 for the mirror and $30 for the lever. Figure I can live without the feeler on the footpeg and will just buff as best I can the scratches on the right-side panels and do some paint touch ups.

I need to get better acquainted with her so I will take the advice of a few of you and leave off the cosmetics for at least a thousand klicks and then make the investment in new panels.

Thanks for all the great advice/sympathy/similar stories and I will be updating the gallery over the next few days.

    Thanks!

Bummer man, to echo what others have said it could have been much worse. Reminds me of the time I rode my old ZX6R for the very first time, was so excited after the ride I hopped off the bike and completely forgot to put the kickstand down.

Well, you got grammar down...now we just need to work on tact.

    Oh...our insurance...it isn't high. Trust me...I priced it for a 07 CBR1000RR. Now, that's expensive.

You're OK.... THAT is what is important.

I too have a white VFR and laid it down (low side) taking off from a stop light. Repair what is needed to get you riding again. If the sratches are black from pavement, use a mirical eraser. That will clean it up. I have to agree with those that said leave the damage. I, like you wanted to rush out and get all new fairings to make her like new. I had to stay strong and leave the damage. Noting hurts more than dropping your bike an damaging it more than repairing it and dropping it again. Wait a while. Put some time between the fall and the repair.

Thanks BP - is that the "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser" you're referring to? Anyway I think I will give this a try and see if it can help clean up the scratched paint work.

    Thanks!

I am happy you are fine, but your feel-bads are obviously in need of some anti-inflamatory... Nozzle is here to help....Hold it with the self pity....

Your bike grabbed your pants so you couldn't put your foot down to support her properly? WTF? I hate this guilt stuff they can cause us and refuse to put up with it.

Now she's guilted you into thinking you should fix her right away?!

You can now ride without even washing the beyotch after riding through a puddle. No guilt for you, it is her fault!

Find that ugly sticker that says how your kid is a "good citizen" at Kidsexchange.... stick that over the scratches until she shows you the respect you deserve!

No way man. Make her feel the pain and embarrassment she's caused herself and you by not fixing a thing until she puts out some for you! :thumb:

Get her the new mirror so it is safer for her to check out the damage that she caused and prevent her from missing traffic in your blindspot.

sorry about the bike I think I did the same with my first bike after leaving the dealer and went into a side street just to get use to the bike where I just stop on the intersection and the ground wasn't level and my right foot was just too short to touch the ground and gravity just took over... same damage mirror minor scratch we learn from these little dumb mistakes. I think the worst part was someone saw me fall down ego kinda got more bruised haha...

I was on Dundas heading east just a little east of Trafalgar (you probably know the area) and still can't quite figure out how it all unravelled since I usually put my left foot down first after coming off the shift lever. Anyway I managed to humilate myself in front of my buddy who was coming up behind and of course all that Saturday afternoon car traffic.  :frusty:

Oh, I forgot to mention, don't ever ride with your pant legs flappin in the breeze. Either ride with proper boots (with the pants tucked inside) or use those pants clips that we all used when riding our bicycles (so that the pants didn't get grease stains or get caught in the gearing). Same goes for shoe laces! (IMHO one should never ride with any footwear with laces...boots, baby, BOOTS!) Why give yourself a reason to fall.
AND WATCH FOR GRAVEL AND GREASEY STAINS...your feet will slip out on ya!

That thought occured to me too but it was so damned cold that day that I was layered up and wearing "cruiser" boots so it was not possible to stuff jeans + Joe Rockets into the tops of the boots. I will be looking at new boots for sure though and will be making sure that nothing catches on any levers or foot rests in the future.

Yup thats it. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It will take off anything that isn't all the way through the paint. I still have a few black marks but that is where the scratch whent all the way through. All the surface stuff came off.
Trust me, I still hate all of the scratches but considering the traffic around here (DC/ No. Virginia) and all of the low speed encounters I have with drivers attached to their cell phones not paying a bit of attention, I am waiting a while before replacing all of my body work.

I feel your pain from this side of the pond, I did a similar thing, when I pushed the bike off it's center stand, lost my balance and had to cling on to it, trying to call for help to no avail. Had a few friction burns on the ends of my fingers, broken brake lever and some minor scratches to the lower cowl,I was gutted, but now relise it just one of life's learning curves.
Your pain will eventually subside,my friend,at least your ok.

Well, we've getting along famously since the spill but I have rev'd enough only once to hear the vtec growl. Fixed the mirror and the lever and the smudges to the ABS don't look all that bad and most have been concealed behind scratch remover. Slow and steady for the first 1,000 klicks is my plan for now.
