hmmm, i think life has shown us that no one is good at doing things in moderation, or responsibly, then again, it would make a lot of revenue.

Me, im a beer man, tried weed in highschool, but now Uncle Sam wants me to walk the line. A good beer suits me just fine, I dont care if I have to hit the gym to ditch the calories.

I can honestly say, I've never, ever done an illegal drug in my life. Never have, never will, don't want to & don't need to. Let the scum of society have the drugs.

& friends don't let friends beer goggle.

    KC-10 FE out...

I'm personally just a beer guy, but I think weed and prostitution should be legalized. Regulate it like any other commodity, give all the tax $$ to the schools. Budget dilemma solved.

I won't say I am for or against the legalization of pot. I don't smoke it. I can't stand the smell of it. I enjoy beer and single malt in their respective responsible places. However I am aware of the cost to society alcohol plays which weed may not necessarily cause. Health care, policing, counseling services for both abusers and victims and their families...the list goes on.

Alcohol has a tenancy to make people (not all mind you) more aggressive. People fight cause damage, DUI and the list goes on where pot I believe has a tenancy to make people more mellow. But there is still the impaired driving aspect of it. The down side of being too mellow is that pot also loosens ones inhibitions. This opens the doors to more rapes, robberies (pot smoker being the victim here) and other crimes against those who may partake. Some argue that due to these inhibitions, a pot smoker may be more inclined to use harder drugs such as coke, crack heroin etc. And these are disastrous. Literally thousands of very successfully people are out there addicted to these only because the "just tried it once". It has destroyed families, careers and good people.

This thread should create some great debate. All of it should be considered important. We should all read this thread for just that purpose. Who knows, maybe there is an answer to this question out there. And one of us may have it.

If there are any out in VFRworld, who are doctors, councellors, scientists or what have you, who have some professional input, please I beg of you to step up to the plate here and be heard.

If pot was legalized, regulated, taxed and everything else spoken of out there, think of the dent it would put into the coffers of organized crime.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but I think you were trying to be a little humored about this. But on the serious side, I believe the vast majority of prostitutes are so hooked on the harder drugs that their lives are basically pathetic. I don't think even 1% of these women, (some men and boys) want to be where they are.

For everyone out there, I for one have utmost respect for recovering alcoholics or those who are making an honest effort to recover from their addictions. We need offer them our moral support much like we do for those who are fighting other illnesses. You note I fall short of calling this a disease, but I do believe it is an illness

"Legalize It! Ohhh Don't Critizise It!"

That's what the great Peter Tosh used to say! They should but to a certain quantity for you to buy monthly. I talked to someone that had a prescription for Cannabis back at Oakland Airport and she told me that she's allowed to buy and carry a certain amount. She passed trough the TSA checkpoint with the stuff and no problem, she just showed the prescription.

I've not smoked since way before I enlisted. I tell you as soon as I retire I'll get some. I'll grow my dreads back and enjoy life.

    Ohhhh I love beer too!

Here is my take but please bear with me on this...

9 years ago I used to work for Tombstone/DiGiorno or what was really called "Kraft Pizza Company" I drove a small freezer truck loaded with pallets of Frozen pizza to grocery stores and sometimes started "Bar Accounts" to have drinking establisments server a slice a pizza in there place...

With Sales comision I grossed about 70-80k a year.... In the grand scheme of things My Job was not very important to anybody... Nobody died if I did not make it to grocery store to deliver a caseof pizza.... Kraft at that time wasowned by Philip Morris....

Philip Morris As you may or may not know is one of the leading distributers of tabaco products and at that time owned Miller Brewing company... So They sold products from Kraft to help with the Munchies, Tabaco products to smoke in between, and Beer to wash down your muncie food....

I was required to be Drug free...... Think about it..... A company that sold Alcohol, Tabaco, and food, wanted me to have nothing to do with pot? These are the same people who have analized all aspects of making sure you are addicted to tobacco said "If you are caught with eveidence of Pot in your system you are fired "Zero Tollerance." What does that really say?

I mean this is a company that I would think would be allabout getting into thebusiness of making another addictive substance into the "main-stream."

Personally, I'll take my 6 pack of Harpoon IPA and get a nice buzz going on the night before a rainy day.... If I know it's gong to be super nice for the next few days, The high of carving a few turns with my VFR? way better than any drug I am aware of....

As a medical professional it has been my experience that people who smoke pot also do other drugs. That is why it is called a 'gateway drug' because it opens the gate for other drugs. It has also been my experience that alcohol causes many problems through out society. Outlawing alcohol has been tried and failed. Outlawing drugs has failed as miserably as prohibition. So, speaking in legal terms, drugs should be treated the same as alcohol. In personal terms-No Way.

I know I should stay away from this one but it draws me in. "scum of the earth"? I hope you're kidding with that. Just because pot isn't legal? What if pot was legal would pot smokers be oaky? Not certain about that.

Is this a moral or economic thread? Rush got hooked on legal drugs is he okay or scum of the earth?

Alcohol is as bad as pot to an alcoholic as a drug addict. Both are diseases. They could start with a beer and end up on vodka. Does that make beer a gateway drink?

Now for economics if we sell beer and that can lead to hard liquor and no one has a problem taxing and selling it than we should tax and sell pot. Sorry prohibition doesn't work children. Billions spent on trying to stop drug imports and it does not work!! There is a demand and when we have a demand there will always be a supply.

Tax and keep the cash use it to educate people on the dangers of alcohol and pot. That makes a little more sense than prohibition.

So, KC, is your problem with illegal drugs the fact that they are illegal (like speeding on your VFR) or that they're drugs (like alcohol). The Spock in me wants to know so I can logically evaluate your comment.

Me? I don't know what I would do if pot were legalized. I don't think I will have to address that question in my lifetime, however . . . .

No disrespect here but I must say that, in my opinion, alcohol reduces most peoples inihibitions, not pot. Think about Kareoke. Need I say more??? Pot makes you more paronoid. You really don't want to be the life of the party when you have smoked.

I agree with you that alcohol can make some people more aggressive when they have too much. Pot? I have to say that I have never seen anyone that has smoked pot want to start a fight. They would much rather sit back and watch it! As for moving on to harder drugs? Look at the alcoholic. There is a certain personality that will not be able to stop at one. The alcoholic drinks until he/she passes out. Put pot in this persons hands and they might want more. It's not about pot. It's about people.
