    Morning all,

Does anybody have any experience or recommendations concerning the removal of decals from bikes, i.e: leaving the paint in tact.

I'm wanting to add custom ones, so I need to remove the originals.

    Cheers

Use a heat gun to loosen them up and then peel them off. After you peel them off use 15% solution of IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) to remove the residual glue. Make sure you use a cloth or rag that isn't colored. The color will bleed from the rag and cause a ghosting of color on the clear coat of the plastic. I hope this helps.

If you're talking about the Honda wings & such, I believe they're under the clear coat. Remove them at your own risk. If you have decals above the clear coat, a hair drier & Goo Gone are your friends. Remove them sloooowly.

    KC-10 FE out...

yep. Honda's one of the only companies who clear coats the decals, which makes sure they stay on, don't peel, and the honda wing logo always looks sharp.

decal removal = paint job, unfortunately.

For regular sticker glue, WD-40 works great. Use it all the time on the plastic items you buy at the store where the price tag is stuck directly to the plastic. Peel off as much of the paper as you can. Spray with WD-40, let sit 10 seconds and wipe off. Then stick in dishwasher.

Tip: it removes tar from paint without harming the paint. Plus, it and 0000 steel wool will get melted boot sole off of chrome with no marks.

Norcalboy is correct, but good old sunshine will not bubble paint, like a heat gun can. And the wings are meant to stay, no easy out there.

Oven cleaner will remove melted shoe from chrome pipes. It's another aspect of parenting, that I've discovered over the years.

I've always been a fan of the detailer in a can that Honda used to distribute.
It blasts bugs, chain lube, ect. from plastic, paint, and chrome, as advertised. Plus it smells like a swimsuit model. I assume that it was dropped as a Hondaline product because it is an aerosol.
    Good luck with the stickers!

    Mac
