How many of you would buy a VFR 1000

I just got my VFR800 and I love it. I especially love the sound of the bike. I showed a picture of it to my father and he (being one of the old guys) said, "Oh geez...another high pitch, whiny exhaust note darting in and out of traffic." Then he heard the bike...

If they make a VFR1000, I hope they stay with the V-4 configuration in order to (this will sound trivial) keep the unique sound. I also like the bikes comfortable ergonomics and great looks. If they keep these aspects of the bike while giving it more power (say, 170 hp at the crank), I would sure buy one.

 

I may be speaking out of turn here, but it seems that one could always get a lighter, quicker setup with one of the race-intended sport-bikes. I like the VFR800 because it's unique...the VTEC (which I think is a great motor), a very unique sound (I'm obsessed with it), and a good mix of sportiness and usability. I think a lot of people here like the VFR because of the package and what it brings to riding.

I liken this to the preference to the gear-driven cams. They were heavier and noisier, but some people might like that sound. I can see how.

 

Has anyone actually read anything (besides forum speculation) on a possible VFR1000? If so, where?

 

bear in mind, the V4 technology isnt going anywhere anytime soon. honda's current motoGP bike, the RC212V, is a V4, as is ducati's desmosedici, and i think yamaha may be running a V4 in that circuit, too. that having been said, the deciding factor for something like what we're talkin about is marketability. if honda isnt convinced that a larger V4 would sell, they just wont make one.

One thing im looking at lately is the fact that ducati stroked out their desmosedici bike (motoGP rules hold motors down to 800cc max), and of the 1500 ducati sold to the public in 2008, most of which were sold before they were even built. i can only hope that honda follows suit and markets a few RC212V bikes to test the waters. I'm sure honda would *quickly* see that theres a market for a higher powered V4 on the street today.

so...like....who can we bug at honda powersports to get them to notice this thread?

 

Um, well, I don't know if the 1000 I-4 has a soul, but when I rode one I think I caught a glimpse of God! Whooosh! Anyway, I have never felt that my 800 is underpowered. If I had, I would not have spent my money on it.

It is only a matter of time before the liter bike VFR is produced...the sooner the better! 1000cc is the perfect displacement for a sport-tourer. I don't know what type of engine will be used - but my bet is Honda will do it right...a SPORT-tourer that can pull your shoulder sockets out when you twist the throttle - but not displace your vertebrae on 300 mile tours = nirvana. Not to mention you can still giver with wifey - or the woman clingin' on the back.

 

Dude, its missing the infamous SSSA. other wise it's heading in the right direction. One can only hope, pray and wish Honda would.

 

The plans found on the internet look like it will be a V4 but the single side swing arm is gone.

 

Wonder if the forks would interchange to the 6th gen?

 

LOL, first the swing arm, OML whats next? Oh yea, watch it have V-Tec and some kind of power steering, or brake thingie-ma-jig

 

If you look at the pic you will see a MOTO style Exhast and a new 600RR style swingwarm.

 

it will be an automatic to keep it nice and heavy.

 

Dude I see no 600RR style swing arm, and as far as exhaust goes, wonder if it's like that on the other side as well. Ha I do see ABS sheesh!.

 

In several posts, comments are made about the possibility of an ‘in line’ VFR; this is a contradiction in terms. The VF in VFR stands for ‘V Four’ just as the VT in VTR stands for V twin. Hondas CB prefix has always indicated in line four since the 1969 CB750KO. So any VFR would be by definition be a V4.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

That headlight looks horrible!!

Also, why would you go away from an underseat exhaust and go back to a "whale-dick" tuba like that? Honda has been able to be different (successfully) with the design of the viffer, and long may that happen.

I would love to see a new 1000cc bike on the market, but can't see it happening when the 800cc class has relevance at the moment.

We can still hope!

 

How about a smaller v4 with a supercharger,not a turbo, mounted in the v? Instant throtle response and lower insurance rates!

 

I would be interested in seeing a 7th gen VFR based on the new 800 V4 motogp bikes.
