I've hit 150+ indicated (not corrected) riding wih my brother on his R6. He ran out of gear and wasn't puling away from me. He was in full tuck and had a bird flly between his arm and his body(he said it didn't hit him). You should have seen the bird spinning and the feathers flying as I passed by.

I've a '04 VFR I purchased new. I've hit a solid 150 mph on it. The front end was starting to bounce a bit so I backed off at that point. Now I know why they tie down the front ends during speed runs.

BTW, I actually love the v-tec engine. Yeah, you may have to watch it while accelerating out of a curve if you're near the 7K rpm's when the second set of valves kick in. I have to tell you, though, I do so love that exhaust note when you get into the upper rpm ranges...it has that raspy sound that no one on the street misses. That being said, I'd love 1000 cc's but keep that exhaust note, Honda.

on my '85 VF1000r I did 160mph as published in the magazines. my '86 i've never topped it out. my TL1000r I've seen 185 plus not corrected and still
pullin'. so who knows how fast it was, at least 170 or better.

    How fast??

I had a glance at the speedo at around 140-145Mph and that was all it had left. Not too sure about how accurate the speedo is tho. that is on my 1987 VFR 700.

From the numbers I have seen in magazine tests (motorcyclist, cycleworld, sport rider etc) the top speed for a 6th gen is right at 150. I have seen an indicated 145 (which was probably more like 135 or so).
I am admittedly a bit skeptical of any claims in the neighborhood of 160s-170s on any VFR (however I do not know much about the previous generations.) While (stock) 6th gen is an amazing and very capable bike, there is just no way it can hang with any recent literbike on a straight road. My Duc should top out around 175 and it gets there MUCH quicker. However in the twisties, I can keep up with my friends (ZX-10 and CBR100RR both '06 models) I just have to work harder.

6th Gen. / 154mph I thought about what could happen at that speed then shut it down...the bike still had a little pull left in it at that speed.

    '99 is fast after all

I put this "How fast" post to see if the 6th gen was faster than 5th.
Last weekend i took a friend out w a new Buell 1200 and cruised between
100-120mph easily for long stretches and hit 150 several times with no problem, just ran out of road. Disclaimer: This was N Tx farm roads_no traffic.

I was fully tucked in and the bike loved it ,and didn't seem to be straining.
The only mods are K&N filter and Vance and Hines slipon. Also a double bubble windshield, w/laminar lip. Escort 8500 and led visual alert.
The best part, the vfr didnt shred my back tire like my blackbird or CBR929 would.
    I love this bike

i think the best my 87 model 700 has done is right at 150, though that was before a lot of mods were out on it. to really drag every last horse out of that motor, i still need to have the bike dyno tuned, and after that, i expect maybe 155 or so.

im sure the newer bikes blow mine out of the water, but i figure im plenty happy with a 21 year old bike still able to 150, and that will pull like a freight train barreling around the streets at only 7 grand.

I got my VFR up to 425mph last weekend,
All I did was re-time the cam balancers and I over torqued the harmonic rotors.:vtr2: :vtr2:

155 consistently indicated on the front straightaway of Road America, Elkart Lake for numerous laps on my 1999 VFR, stock. However, Jason Pridmore went around me on a GSXR 1000 at about a 30 MPH difference with a passenger, popped a wheelie at the start finish line, dropped the front end down going into turn #1 and was exiting turn 3 when I was apexing turn 1......unbelievable!

About three weeks ago I set a new world record for the fastest Ford GT (a Hennessey twin-turbo GT1000) that went 235.3 before I ran out of tarmac at the Lemoore Naval Air Station (here's a video of the speedo on a low-boost run... YouTube - Hennessey GT1000 0-225 mph ). Later that day I fired up my my "press" 25th Anniversary r/w/b Interceptor (see http://vfrworld.com/forums/sixth-generation-2002-2007/10200-how-many-2007-rwb-were-made.html ) and made two WOT glory passes. The air temp was about 75-degrees F, no wind, I was in "full tuck", I weigh about 170 lbs with gear, 1/2 tank of fuel, 2,800 miles on the odometer, and the bike was stock with all accessories (including side luggage mounts, but with no luggage attached). According to the Interceptor's speedometer (which I know is a bit fast over 80 mph) the bike achieved 158 mph. Of course, the bike got to about 150 in short order, but the last few mph (especially the final 1 mph) required a lot of real estate to achieve. Thus, figuring in speedometer error the bike was likely going a tick over 150 mph.

Speaking of big speed, this weekend is the Maxton Mile (in North Carolina)... anybody going? Usually there are many wicked-fast bikes that attend, but I'm going to try to take them down with a twin-turbo Viper that I'll be driving. Last year I set a record at 225.213 mph within the mile, this weekend the car is set on kill and we're hoping for 240.

If you're in the neighborhood, bring out your Interceptor for some fun (FYI: you need full leathers to compete).

    How fast

Well on my 02 VFR loaded with my tank bag and trunk bag both full to the brim in a rain storm I did get it up to 143 MPH. It wasn't redlined and I do have a speedo healer on my bike, from what I hear the speedo healer will fix most of the errors.

    150mph is it

    Hey vffrs,
I started this "How Fast" thread because I missed the speed of my previous superbikes: cbr929, zx11c, cbr1100xx.
After putting 15k miles on my '99 vfr I still missed raw power.
I installed Vance and Hines slipon and K&N filter, that set her free.
But, I have finally have come to accept that the VFR is perfect for what it is designed for: more comfort, medium speed, a great motor with very predictable HP, and an all round great bike.
Not a superbike, it wasn't built for that.
Most owners will never hold it WFO in 6th looking for the rush, but ride at a comfortable pace, all day though.
I took my bike to the texas hill country,{the VERY best roads in Texas}, where I had ridden my superbikes before and at hi speeds{above 110} the vfr is reaching it's limit of suspension and frame stability in corners.
With that said: it is still the best bike in the world for what it was built for,
Voted best all round bike in the world for 10 years straight by cycle mags.
