i just bought a 86 vfr 750. it has a yoshimura r&d pipe on it. i dont like the way yosh sounds to high pitched and sounds like a small block v-8. do they make another baffle for this pipe or what do you recommend as a good sounding low tone pipe for this bike?

LASER still makes an exhaust for the vfr750 if you wanna invest the $550-$600 into it. I hear its a really great improvement. Unless you wanna do a custom exhaust.

Mivv spa also makes several exhaust components for the 1st gen bikes. apparently they are building the original cans for these bikes too if anyone is tryin to restore one

    (1) congrats on a really rare find. the 750's are getting harder and harder to find in good condition

    (2) get used to the small block sound. its one of the finest qualities of the bike. listen a little more objectively, and itll sound like a blown small block when you start hearing those cam gears mixed in with the exhaust

    (3) Laser is the only company who is currently producing exhausts for the 86-89 bikes. i can speak from experience and say that laser is flat out the best sounding exhaust ive heard, and ive had 4 different aftermarket exhausts including my stock pipes. Yeah, theyre pricey. that was a big hurdle i had to get past as well, and im honestly glad i did.

if you wanna see pics of the laser offered for your bike, take a look at the pics in my gallery. I have the Pro D'Or with the carbon fiber can on it. it has a nice, deep tone (hence the model name "Laser Deeptone Pro D'Or") and it just sounds awesome. never all raspy like yosh or kerker.

I am working on getting a video camera for a day so i can take some vids of my bike to show off the body work, and the exhaust, etc. I'll post those when i get them done and have a chance to get em online.

the laser is kind of half the system. you use the stock header pipes, but nothing else. this replaces the midsection of the exhaust with a 4-2-1 baffle (which is all one piece, and slides on all 4 header pipes, and joins the exhaust within the same unit), and a 3" right side exit pipe with a deeptone muffler.

its not what id really call a slip on, as i typically consider a slip on to be nothing but the can itself, but this isnt a full system either, since the stock header pipes are used. Honestly, i dont mind this, knowing that the engine has to be un-bolted from the frame to get the rear header pipes off the bike.

Plus the header pipes are very well made Titanium parts. The headers have long outlived the yosh mid pipe my bike had and the heavy stock cans. What did you pay for the Carbon setup? Called the rep today, waiting to here back from him.

Rob the NY vendor is having a sale on all laser pipes. The carbon is $553 and the SS is $515 free shipping! I had to go Carbon for only $40 more! Happy Birthday to me! Thanks so much for that link, Im stoked, loved the sound of the Yoshi before it rotted off, cant wait to here this one.

Nice bike, thats the same setup I had on mine. Keep an eye on the mid pipe, moisture tends to collect there and rot it out from the inside. I should have sent mine out to get an inside outside jet-hot ceramic coating in hindsight. Now Im out like 6 bills for the Laser setup. The stock pipes just cut the nuts off the bike, sad to say, plus thier heavy and drag to easy, whooped rear shock does not help.

fox240, i do have to admit that bike looks damned good in straight black. ive come to be a big fan of the yoshimura exhausts, and now that ive seen and heard the one on your bike, i see that the vfr exhausts are no exception. thats a really clean and strong sounding exhaust on that bike. it kinda disappoints me that i wasnt able to find a yosh exhaust for my own bike.

i want to paint the wheels silver. the bike was orginally white. as far as the yosh they dont make the r&d pipe any more. so i'm goin to learn to like it for now. can anyone point me in the direction of getting plastics? i need the piece below the throttle in between the gas tank and fairing.
