V-tech- Over all positive or negative?

    I hope your not refering to me, because if you are, no doubt you didn't read my last post WORD FOR WORD or you would of not stated this comment.

    As for a sport bike vs sport tourer, Honda has been promoting the CBR1000RR in the Honda monthly mag many times as a easily capable sport-tourer with minor mods(Higher bars, taller wind screen, Comfier seat, soft paniers, & a tank bag, (NOT ME, BUT HONDA !). I see it as plausable & not keen on it myself, but like the increased power for a sport-tourer especialy with loads.

    Instead of doing this, just wish Honda used the same thought pattern & did the same to the VFR800 mid size sport tourer with a new 7th gen, still can be a 800, but with more ponies, lighter.

    Then it would be a perfect mid size sport-tourer (well if it didn't have the V-Joke also :biggrin: ).

    O come now Taz, you have well demonstrated how much higher you can micturate than the rest of us... :tongue:

    A good mate has just converted his Black / Silver '04 R1 with renthal bars due to work related ( jackhammer etc ) nerve damage in both arms unfortunately these mods on a svelte Superbike look sad, kinda like a plow on a Racehorse then again they allow him to ride which is the main thing. :smile:

    Flysurgeon: Thanks for the details...you did GREAT on the trade. That is what loyalty to a shop does for you. Glad you got the right bike for YOU. Cause after all, that is what it is all about...getting the right bike for you and not the right bike for the guy down the block (or the other guy on the forum).

    Not really trying to educate, (OK maybe a little :smile: ) more than advise.

    :rolleyes: again, read my post, & you'll see I never said that any or all will agree with me, as to the smiley's, no one on any bike or make is 100 % in agreement with another, I just state my experiance & likes, you can take how ever you want, but for respect or comments back as I do with others. Even the roll your eye's long threads / posts, I don't comment unless I read through verbatum, or I don't comment.

    Well, To answer the Original question. I just got my VFR, an 06. I traded my 05 Hayabusa for it. My Busa was decked out, every time I rode it I found that I would hve to do triple digets to have fun. I tried the VFR before the trade and realized that it was a whole different world. I enjoy the type of power the V tech produces. I enjoy wicking it up in the twisties and keeping it above 6K (sometimes) and on the other side I enjoy taking a three day trip with loaded beatle bags and a quite motor. I have several bikes, which include an R1, a harley road king and an old KZ750. The VFR is without a dought the most versitle. By the way the R1 is foresale. Just depends on what a person is looking for. The V tech is a blast, its different and Im having a great time trying to master the use of it.

    I bought V Tech because I particularly wanted a VFR having lusted after one for years. I also wanted it new, that narrowed the options.

    Friend of mine has VFR with gear driven cams, I like his bike too, but they aren't making them any more.

    The V-Tech has only given me one moment of unwanted excitement and that was passing a truck in the rain.

    I might be happy with a bigger non V-tech engine but as I understand it the engine is already bored out to the max, any increase in capacity means a completely new engine.

    Variable valve timing may be around for a while yet. Suzuki have recently introduced a model with variable camshafts(?). Sorry I can't say which as I've loaned that issue of BIKE to my dealer.

    Whatever spins your crank...

    I think Vtech is overall positive for two reasons, improved low end torque and improved fuel economy. I don't know of any other bike this fast and of this displacement that can easily top 50MPG.

    This thread is so useless. the 6th Gen bike is not made to be a pure sport bike. It has plenty of power and has attributes that are BETTER than the 5th Gen (and vise versa). I'm tired of people bashing the 6th Gen bike and trying to compare it to a different style of bike. Grow up and get over it...

    Last time i checked there were a lot more 6th Gen owners on this site than any other generation.

    I agree with this 100%. I however miss the whine of the tightly meshed gears and the total 'tractorability' of my decidedly low-tech 93vfr. I also miss the thought of having 4-polished aluminum velocity stacks huffing air under the gas tank - somehow the plastic replacements in my 02 just don't do it for me... oh well time marches on, technology both good and bad happens and my love affair with VFR's continues.

    I'm with you. The turn signal idiot lights are way out of view when you're actually paying attention to where you're going. I'm having to reprogram myself to check and cancel after each turn.

    As well: why no 6th gear O/D indicator? I always know I'm there because you need to be going pretty fast to use the overdrive, but every Honda I've ever owned (even the pathetic 450 Nighthawk) had the O/D light. Just stick it next to the neutral light where it belongs...


    About the VTEC thing... I think we can all agree that the engine works like a 5th gen ('cept for the gear-driven cams) above 7K. If you're serious about moving your a$$ down the road, you should be well into VTEC territory, and playing around 9K-11K.

    I know, every bike has cancelling signals...even quads and dirt bikes.....

    an O/D would be n ice i do sometime try to shift up past 6th when cruising down the high way.

    wow i want the ten minutes back that i wasted reading this thread LMAO......and yet strangely i have to contribute to this madness. :D i think VTEC is a non-issue. the vtec 'kick' is pretty minimal. IMO if you are having a problem with VTEC on the corners then the problem is the rider not the bike. what i mean by this is if you are railing the corners then you are gonna be above the 64-6600 rpm where the VTEC kicks in. and if you are just cruising then you dont need to worry about the VTEC messin with you in the corners cuz you are not going that fast where it would foul you up. also the vtec is nice when i am just cruising on the highway cuz i can cruise at 5500 and the bike is nice, quiet and gets good mpg's. not to mention the 6th gen vfr's LOOK BITCHIN!!! its the 1st bike that i thought looked almost as good at my old DUC 748s.

    Im a sixth gen owner and I dont understand why anyone nowadays would want to buy an old bike with old technology???? 5th gen?????? There will be no more soon, then what will you guys do, turn coat to another machine. Maybe turn to classic pre war machines if your that much of technophobes to enjoy the new modern day classic that is the V TECH :)

    I dont mind the Vtec at all. I have tracked the VFR and it wasnt a problem there either. With a few simple mods, you can make the bike run super smooth and it is very easy to ride with a great torque band. I say it is a win.

    However, I will be getting a CBR600 or 1000 for the track and spirited riding this winter.
    I love the VFR, but I just want a little more juice.
