I will be hitting the 15k mark pretty soon and thought I would check and see if anyone has had the 15k service along with a valve adjustment done. I am curious to see if any valves were out and needed to be shimmed. If a Honda shop performed the service how much was the charge?

I was quoted $600 plus shims last year. I decided to wait till 32K. From what I've read here and on "that other VFR site" the vast majority found they were still in spec even at 32k and beyond...

It's actually the 16k mile service (the service intervals are every 4k and 8k miles. I just had it done at Fay Myers a week ago. Paperwork didn't say whether any valves were out of adjustment, but I'm sure it was fine. As with most previous oil changes there, the sight glass is still showing it overfilled after several rides. I hate having other people work on my stuff and not do it right, but I paid a lot for a service contract (which has now paid for itself, and then some). The bill came out to just under $1000.00. It is nice to be able to pick it up without having to pay anything on a big service like that. BTW, I'm also now on my 5th set of tires, including the originals. Went with the new Bridgestone T30 EVO. So far they handle great.

Had mine done by my local Honda dealer last month when it was in for its 16k service, they called me to ask whether I wanted them to check the clearances or leave it till a later service. I asked them to do it and guess what, they were fine.

Was that on the new Vfr? Or the old vtec?

Several folk have done their own and found that the vtec ones were out of spec at 16k

No, they didn't, just "clearances checked and within tolerance". Taking off the cost of supply and fitting of the BikeTrac tracker I had done at the same time the service (oil & filter change plus air filter and brake fluid change) was about £430 including VAT.

The new 8th gen has the same exact VTEC system as the 6th gen...so all have had VTEC since 2002...it's basically the same motor and frame, with a few minor tweaks, like ECU and intake runner length, and I think the cams might have an updated profile on the new one.

Over 70,000 miles total on 3 bought new VFR's and never a valve check done. All ran and run great. Save your money. You asked for input. Keep asking.

Think the question was aimed at the new bike not the last version despite the similarities.
