I have found similar posts about newer bikes, but haven't found anything, including the manual's exploded view, which help me figure out where this clip popped out from on my 1985 Interceptor 750's caliper.. I even bought a second caliper from ebay and tried to take the pads out more carefully, and the clip fell right out onto the table before I could figure out where it goes.. Can anyone help?? I'm feeling pretty dumb here - there's just not that many places it could go, but it doesn't seem to want to fit anywhere!!

It's a spring that fits into the caliper just above pads. If you spend a few minutes foolin around you'll find where it fits. You could try viewing a parts fiche for additional help.
