I have a really mint Gen 2 86, and I am trying to make it outlast me.

Does anyone know the best supplier for a replacement chain and sprocket set that is a fit? I see a few options on the web, but I am pretty skeptical of just a google search. Some forum members mentioned that the Factory Stock front sprocket has a rubber insert to quiet things down. Does anyone make a fit that would have the same feature?

I am also considering a switch to a Lithium battery and seeking recommendations.

I have been using DID chains and sprockets almost exclusively since I bought my 06 in 2006. It now has near 227,000 km (141,000 miles give or take) on it. Are they better or worse than OEM or other aftermarket chains and sprockets. Honestly I don't know. But I do believe they are a very popular chain and sprocket. Now you will get arguments, on both sides, if you should change the sprockets with every chain change. I am one who changes both sprockets at every chain change.. I get mine from the Sprocket Center here in Canada. I don't know if they are in the good ole US of A. But you give them your make model and year, and they send the chain cut to length and with the proper sprockets.

Lots of quality options. Don't know if I would get stuck on a particular brand as long as it's a known quality option. I'm typically RK or DID on my chains and JT, DID, Parts Unlimited, Bike Master and OEM (ebay deals) on my sprockets. I use steel on the rear unless I find a deal on a leftover PB or Sprocket Specialist anodized aluminum option.

I will change my c/s sprocket "half way" thru as it takes a lot of abuse with so few teeth. It GREATLY extends the life of the chain and is (relatively) cheap.

I've tried a couple different brands over the years, and now default to DID. Sprocket Center is where I get my stuff.
Skip the lithium battery and spend your money on gas. A WallyWorld battery will last you 4-5 years with proper care
and save you some big bucks.
I've used the sprocket with the rubber and without the rubber and couldn't tell the difference.
