I bought my first vfr last month after owning a 76 cb and the bike has been great- right up to the point that it died. It started towards the end of a beautiful day of riding. I was on the freeway and it died on me. I pulled over, turned it off and it wouldn't turn on again- nothing- no lights, no horn, nothing. I moved it to the side of the road, came back the next day with a new battery and gas, and it still wouldn't start. This time all the lights came on and the starter was engaging, but it never turned over. I brought it back to my house and tried it again and with a little patience, it started right up- as if it had just gotten gas into the engine. I rode it around and sure enough, it died again. This time, thankfully, I was able to start it right back up and bring it home. I have gas in the tank, gas to the pump, the pump works, gas after the pump, gas in the carbs, a new fully charged battery and still nothing. The bike was running perfect before. Any ideas?

hmmm.. sounds like a ground.... check all connections start with the stator and work your way around look for anything burnt or melted.. If you can get her started again pull voltage while running from the battery ..

    good luck

could be dirty/ corroded electrical contacts, so start inspecting plug connections and (as above) chassis grounds, both the fat black wire aboive the right footrest and the green wire that bolts just under the right side dash cover and plug sets.

The first test any new VFR owner needs to make is charging voltage @ 5000 rpm.

The four pin connection at the starter relay very likely toast, most get that way. It is located next to the battery and plugs into the top of the starter relay.

You are all geniuses, thank you innumerably! The ground wire right of the radiator was fastened to the frame incorrectly. I readjusted and it started right back up. Going for a ride to double check that I put everything back correctly. Thanks again.
