Hello lads and lassies, ive bought a mint vfr 1996 with 17k miles, my prob is that there seems to be a lot of vibration through the footrests this happens about 4 to 4,5 thousand revs and clears at 5200ish revs, it felt like the chain and sprockets were knackered and i changed them but its made no difference [the chain was indeed knackered] is this vibration normal? ps ive also balanced the carbs and i know that plugs filter etc are all ok. thanks in advance for any help given Tommy Tickle:cool:

Welcome aboard. Haven't noticed any excessive vibration but there is a slightly audible "pulse" on mine between 4000-4500rpm. Is it speed or rev related? That could narrow it down a bit. One more thing, post up a pic of your bike before the guys here give you hell

Check to be certain that the 2 rubber buffers are in place at the sides of the petrol tank.

There's a peak in the published torque curves for these things at around 4k, which makes for nice short-shifting drivability, then a plateau (the rough part for my '95) before it gets steep again and the afterburners light up.

Mine's happy up to 4000rpm then gets a bit cranky (rougher) but by 6000rpm it smooths right out and gets into a rush, so I think of it as a characteristic of the design.

Similar to what Bryan88 suggested, compare how it feels in each gear, especially 4, 5, 6th. Does it happen always at the same rpm, or at the same road speed whatever gear it is in.

Also check if you have an aftermarket front sprocket without the rubber element of the stock sprocket, maybe that's a factor too. Has anyone changed theirs to or from stock and noticed a change of vibration?
