Hi my name is Ian, I lived in Pattaya Thailand for 3 years, I am interested in buying a 1999 VFR interceptor, would this make a good comfortable touring bike for 2 persons, would I be able to fit panniers or saddle bags to this bike, as I will travelling a 2000 kilometer round trip to my girl friends house, Pattaya to Chiang saen on a regular basis. Regards ian

Hello and welcome Ian. A (ex-marine) buddy of mine has some VERY fun stories from Pattaya Beach, Thailand....and all of them involved lots of scantly clad ladies and lots of :drink: haha. You ex-military?

I have a 1998 VFR, which is identical to the 1999 pretty much (they didn't change things until 2000), and I bought mine with Givi Hardcase SaddleBags. Here is a link, and some pics of my bike with the saddlebags on. Keep in mind that other top cases on the Givi site will work on our bikes, but I am just showing you what I have. Oh, and I have a "highmount" two brothers exhaust as well. It is will work with standard (non-highmount) as well.

Givi Link You could also get a top box like this as well.... Givi Top Case Link

The only complaint that I have about my setup, is that it is hard for the passenger to "step" up onto the bike. I normally have to have my gf sit on the bike before me, and scoot herself backwards, so she can get her feet on the pegs. It is fine once she is on, but just getting on is a tad awkward for her. With only a top case, you of course would not have this issue....you could use a tankbag, and have her carry a backpack as well. Just an idea.
