    Hi all,
I'm new here and thought that someone might of had this before. I've got a 2000 VFR800 and had it since new. It's always been trouble free and the best bike I've ever owned. (I've had a lot of bikes too) Anyways, it just rolled 29K miles and I'm starting to hear a clunk from the engine area as I release the clutch when taking off in 1st gear. It's not as loud when going into 2nd, but it is there. I don't hear it in the upper gears. The clutch doesn't slip once it's engaged, and I don't think it is the throw out bearing as it doesn't do it in the upper gears. I don't think it's the engaging dogs on the gears themselves wearing either, my 94 FZR1000 has that problem.
    Any thoughts would be appreiciated.

I presume you are changing gears above 3K. If I change gears much lower than that, the next gear is to tall and it'll clunk and chug when I let the clutch out. Also, how is the tension on your chain? Sometimes if the chain is too tight or too loose it may cause this, at least in my experience. I just loosened my chain a bit because it sounded like the gears in first an second were clunking. I had more tension in some places than others along the length of the chain. Of course, if it is too loose it will also slap against the swingarm and you can hear that on downshifts easily. Other than that I really have no other idea. Maybe someone else hear has experienced something similar. Hope this helps a little.
