2003 6th gen VTec - Ignition issues

Morning all. First of all my apologies if this has been asked before, I can't find a post that matches my problem exactly.

So I bought my VFR a couple of months ago and she rode home beautifully. On my 3rd ride out on her she cut out while riding, the solution to this immediate problem is to pull in the clutch and press the ignition button. After a couple more test runs I have established that the issue arises when I change gear, up or down. At the same time as this issue starting another problem arose. When I turn the ignition key, nothing happens and I have to do that 3 or 4 times before she finally turns on.

I've already checked the earthing block in the nose and the wires look almost brand new (she has 40k miles on the clock) although I do still intend to re-earth them.

Does anyone have any other suggestions and fixes for me please? I intend to do the work myself as it's high time I learnt how to look after my bikes after always using mechanics in the past.
