Hey all, new guy here and new to sport bikes. I have always been on the side of choppers and bobbers but some dude I met was giving away (literally) his '97 750. Flat rear tire and a dead battery. Had to push it home. Luckily it was only 5 blocks. Charged battery and seems to run fine. The dude had his eye on a new bike and was just tired of having an ugly ride that needed tinkering. Lucky for me I LOVE ugly rides that need help. Anyways, So I'm now fightering it (man, I hate that term) and I'm in the process of removing all that is unnecessary starting with the electrical system. I've cut back all the wiring and run the bulk of the front portion of the harness into the airbox via a hole drilled into the bottom of the airbox. Question 1 is: Should I be concerned with carburetor heat messing with the "doodads" (sorry for the crappy terminology but the little fuse box and relay thingys) and the wires? Should I put the wiring in the upper portion where the air filter is? Or would it not be a problem as long as I contain all wires with heat insulating wrap? Question 2 is: I want to relocate the oil cooler behind the forks and mount somehow. Gotta cut the hoses and shorten. After cutting, can I just put a barbed PVC hose connector in there to splice the cut hoses? Seal with RTV and hose clamps? Thanks in advance. Heres what I have so far...
