Anybody have any idea on where I can get carb rebuild kits for my '84 VF500? The dealer has them, but they're $35+ each. I don't remember paying that much for any rebuild kit before. I think I can probably find a set on eBay cheaper than it would be to rebuild mine!

    E-mail this guy: billycarrjr@earthlink.net.
He probably has them. Be sure to mention my name.
I've dealt with him before and he's a good guy.

I was so shocked after they told me the price that I forgot to ask!! :bolt:

Doesn't matter now anyhow. I bought a complete rebuilt set off eBay for $102!

The last I talked to him BillyC didn't offer them and wasn't going to. I've been wanting to offer a VF500 kit similar to what he sells on eBay but it's been pushed WAY back due to other projects. Hey, I'm only one man!

Didn't want to start a new thread so I hope to resurrect this one. I have an 85 Vf500F and can't find rebuild kits anywhere, and that's the last thing I need to get the bike street worthy. Well, I guess I'm not 100% sure they're needed yet, but it's pretty likely. I'd like to be ready just in case. So any updates on where I could find a rebuild kit? Are these the same carbs on any other bikes?

    slippy, try "motorcyclecarbs.com"

this guy is in atlanta about 7 miles from my front door. he was VERY helpful to me. i needed 2 bowl gaskets: HMC said "only complete kits available at $45 per set, so... it will cost you $180 for the 2 gaskets you need!!!" i found motorcyclecarbs.com on the net, realized he was practically next door, called him up and had 2 gaskets in hand a couple of hours later for a total of approx $35. he couldnt have been nicer or more friendly.

he told me that he could get ANY individual part needed that was still available. carbs is ALL he does, and he knows and stuff and has the connections.

he also offers complete carb resto/rebuild services.

Thanks, I'll definitely check that out. Hopefully soon I'll have it stripped down to see exactly what I need and hopefully this guy can help me out.

I just got an email back from motorcyclecarbs.com and they told me they can't get any parts, but can do a full restoration service for $530 plus shipping and parts. I'll pass. The best my dealer said was he can order the whole carb, didn't even quote a price. This is gonna be fun.

I can help you out with rebuild kits. I'm putting them together right now and it looks like they will be less than $20 for all four carbs. This would be a basic seal kit, if you need floats or needle/seats that would be extra. I'm also considering a rebuild service. Other places offer this for around $300-350 and I think it's too much. I'm rebuilding a set of carbs from one of my own 500's right now and I'll know after that what I should charge. Shoot me an e-mail off list at jamie@daughertymotorsports.com if you are interested in either of these.
