85 interceptor 700 when put in first to bump start it ,just locks the back wheel and nothing .help p

I just bought this bike blind and cant get it to stsrt due to the idiler gear was gone and the seat hole for it is broke in half and when try to push start it it just locks the back wheel up nothing else happens

 

Try a higher gear, better mechanical advantage

 

Im thinkin gears may be trashed or something off due to fact what would break the idiler gears seat is broke in half

 

can u send a picture of the broken stuff ?

u can try to turn the crank (clockwise) using a socket under the small cover on the clutch cover 17mm.

 

I actually tried and it locked but it went counter with no prob and chugged with compression sound when did

 

see ifu can shift into neutral

 

u heard the starter clutch rolling backwards but didn't move the crank back.

 

Posdibly im really not sure ill try again tomorrow and let u know ,is it a real mission to get in to check the gears out ir better off to sell it ?

 

On my old Magna, I had to replace the starter clutch rollers, then all was good for starting. If you're going to bump start it, put it in third so there is more mechanical advantage... still too low, try fourth. You're jumping to the conclusion the trans gears are bad, which I would find difficult to believe until you investigate further.

 

With the spark plugs out, it should roll over pretty easily when pushed in any gear. That would quickly tell you if the transmission is broken or the engine is locked up in some other way.
