'86 VF700 vs VF750. What are the differences?

    Does anyone have a link explaining the differences between same-year 700cc and 750cc VFR from the mid 80's? I had originally thought they were much different (frame, brakes, suspension, etc) but reading a couple of contemporary articles on the 700 has me wondering if I was incorrect.

    For every 750 I see for sale, there are probably 3 or 4 700cc versions, and usually quite a bit cheaper. Are they that different, or is it just that the 750 was the "race replica" while the 700 was a tax dodger courtesy of Harley-Davidson lobbying?

    I have a 86 vfr700 (r,w,b), and also the service manual which covers 1986 vfr 750F,VFR700F/FII,INTERCEPTOR, put out by Honda.Under specs, it shows:
    bore and stroke 70.0 x 48.6mm (2.76 x 1.91 in)
    70.0 x 45.4mm (2.76 x 1.79 in)

    Displacement 748cc (45.6 cu in), 699 cc (42.7 cu in)

    Appears they altered the stroke.

    I have read several times on this site that performance is not much different. Its interesting that the horsepower ratings are not shown in the service manual,but as I recall there is qute a bit of difference in the hp ratings.

    Regarding your second paragraph, I agree the 750,s are usually higher as they made less, and I think the 700 was created due to HD friendly import tax.
    In the 700 size, there is red, white, blue scheme,all white, and a silver blue scheme. The r,w,b, instruments are different from the later 700's.

    I am not sure if they made an 87 VFR750.

    But, ride any one of them, and the differences will melt away.

    the 700 was made as a Tarrif beater when the Harley embargo was instituted back in the mid to late 80's on import bikes over 750 cc.....

    The 700 was also available in the pearl white in 86 with a few differences in gauges and wiring but all very minor. To ride the 750 and 700 back to back you would not notice the difference. The 87 700 was a bit more noticeable.

    Differences are pretty simple. the 700 is a McD's double w/cheese. the 750 is filet mignon
