I'm looking for the shock linkage for an 86 VFR. I'm doing the F2 wheel conversion on an 87 and need the 86 linkage to raise the rear ride height. Thanks

I went to the stash. I had one of each, 86 & 87. If I had two 86 you would have one. Sorry.

I donated one to a buddy for the same reason, but I thought I had an extra extra. If I come across it I will let you know.

I don't know how there's not like 12 of them on eBay right now for $25-30. You probably discovered the same thing.

    Good luck.

Thanks I appreciate you looking. Yeah, I thought the same thing that there'd be several on ebay. But I figured if there was it would be hit or miss whether it was an 86 linkage, I'm sure that some folks think the 86 and 87 linkages are the same. Joe Nelson said he thinks he has one and is going to check when he gets a chance.
Thanks again, and I appreciate your posts, I've learned a lot. I'm looking through your 92 VFR750 rescue/refresh as we speak. Lol

For future reference if needed, the 86 version has "ML7" cast in it, the 87 does not.

And here is an example of an 87. "ML7" would be cast right around here (red area) on the 86 version.

Another tell is if it comes with the "Connecting Rod", the 87 used a plate and tube type construction, not the cast piece on an 86. The two styles of the Connecting Rod are dimensionally identical and can be interchanged.

Thanks for the info., that's good to know. Were the fork internals the same between the two years? They look identical on the outside but I figure since Honda tweaked the rear suspension they probably tweaked the front too.

The damper rod did change part numbers but I wouldn't attribute any real world difference. Stock 87 might be a touch more compliant. But still only as good as a damper rod fork can perform.

You could always ask them to remove and ship just what you want (the linkage) to reduce cost.

Also, there's only 1 photo on the auction site, so do your due diligence as needed.
