Anyone know the fork length (top to axle center) for the 3rd gen bikes? Trying to figure out why my 86 with 93 forks is so ill handling. Previous owner had swapped on a 93 front end to get the wider wheel but it is very slow steering and wants to stand up in a corner. No fun... The 86 forks are supposedly 835mm but with a 16 in wheel.

I don't know the answer to your question but before you go rebuilding the front end, maybe you just need a new front tyre? Tyres that are worn square can give the effects that you refer to.

Otherwise it is possible that the front end is riding higher than it should or the back is lower (or both). If a 17" rim went into the back that could also drop the back end. To correct the geometry may require a longer shock or dropping the yokes down the forks to lower the front, assuming that the fork and shock are sagging to a "normal" 1/3 of travel when you are sitting on the bike.

I thought the 86 used a quite long fork/high steering head compared to later models. Paging @Captain 80s, he will know all the answers that you seek.

The 91 forks I have are ~788mm, center of axle to top of fork, fully extended with fork caps off.
