Hey guys. Just got my bike out of storage and it appears to be leaking very badly.

I pulled the fairing and it looks like 2 or 3 carbs are leaking from the bowls, possibly around the gasket area.

Do you guys know if thats a common thing? Should I looked else where for leaks?

Will a gasket kit take care of this? Looking to order the parts so I can get it done.

    Thanks

Hi 2wenty, I just went through this on my 92. I purchased a set of All Balls carb rebuild kits on ebay, and a viton oring kit from Harbor Freight. Then I synchronized my carbs using a Motion Pro 90 degree hex driver with a 7mm socket and an Empi synch tool.

Here's some good carb rebuilding info plus a bunch ov other VFR related maintenance how to's:

Thanks for the info. Dumb question but if I just replace the bowl gaskets do I need to balance the carbs? The thing runs really good, just leaks at the bowls.

    Do you have to?

    No

However if you are there, and have the tools then it would be smart to do so.

Be careful, I thought mine was just leaking from the bowls until I removed the carbs. A closer inspection revealed the crossover tubes leaking as well. That's why I used Harbor Freight O-rings, I didn't think to pre-order them but then wished I had. I learned that the rubber they used back in the day doesn't stand up to ethanol so even if they're not leaking now, it makes sense to change them to viton while you're already in there.

I also thought my bike was running great before, it's a whole new animal after the carb sync!

Correct, I used the bowl gaskets that came in the All Balls kit.
