I recently picked up a 96 VFR 750f. I was told it would turn over but had bad gas in it. The battery was dead as well. I changed the fuel and sprayed carb cleaner in the carbs. I put about 2oz of seafoam in the tank with the new gas. I replaced the battery. When I tried to start it, I got a click. The starter tired to engage, but only slightly turns the engine. I bypassed the relay and went directly to the starter with power and still got just a partial engage. I took out two of the spark plugs and the pistons ARE slightly moving when I engaged the starter. How can I tell if the starter is totally bad or if I have other problems? Is it possible to get "vapor lock" because of the carb cleaner/seafoam in the fuel? I REALLY want to fix this bike.

    :welcome:

Clean the contact point on the large black ground wire going from battery to chassis, and be sure the battery connections are tight.

The condition you describe suggests insufficient battery power.

After that's sorted you might need to clean the carbs.

A new battery with a full charge should show about 12.6 volts on your multimeter, and owning a Honda motorcycle requires that you keep a meter close by at all times.

I let it sit over night and it turned over. :) Its running now!!! The only problem I have is one of the carbs leaks gas. It runs great. I think a float may be stuck.

If it runs great a float is probably not leaking but a float bowl gasket maybe is. Those gaskets shrink as they dry up, so a couple days exposure to fresh fuel may cure the problem.

Cool!! Thanks! Im planning on checking this weekend. Its a pretty bad leak. I know it sat before I got it. The gas was YELLOW when I poured it our. I have added seafoam to the fuel. I'm amazed it cranked as easy as it did. I appreciate all the help!!!

It seems the new fuel and the seafoam swelled the seals and cured the leak!! YAY!! Thanks!!
