98 Honda VFR800 - No Engine Temp. Reading

Hi folks, new to the forum.

Looking for some advice so hopefully someone here can help.

As the title says, the temperature gauge just displays 2 dashed lines like this: "--" even after leaving the bike warm up for a good 2 or 2 minutes. I checked the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor and wires which all seem ok. I am getting resistance from both the sensor and the wires going to the gauge so I know these are working but am still not getting a temperature reading.


Any ideas?

 

Your thermostat sensor could be bad. Pull them out and test with the metter.
