When I pulled her out of the garage this morning she indicated the air temp was 28, as I began riding it started dropping and dropping. I noticed at one point it said 14 degrees and then when I looked down a few minutes later it said "- -" And it was like that the rest of the ride. Does this mean something is broke or that it is just really cold?

On a side note, what is the coldest you have seen for air temp while riding?

Being a west coast puss I have never seen mine below 40ish I think. 28 degrees? I would just push it back into the garage. That is an emergency condition around here.

Coldest air temp I have seen while riding was mid 20's. If I were you I would make sure that the connector is tight to the temperature sensor. If anything, it should be the temp sensor that is faulty and it is a $40 part. You might short the system check connector to see if it is throwing any codes that aren't triggering the FI light to come on.

Manual states the temperature range that will show on the display is 14 to 122 degrees F anthing above and below will show "--"

Lowest I had indicated was 15 degrees one brisk December ride. this was before any snow so the roads were not covered in cinders and salt.

Damn, I thought I was hardcore when I went riding at 27 F for the Toys for Tots Ride a couple years back... I didn't know you could get the T sensor too cold to read. I was gonna say to check and see if it fell out or something...

I never did more than half an hour below freezing on the VFR but from experience it will be more comfortable than my 79 CB750 which has nothing to deflect wind.

the coldest I ever felt on a bike was not in the teens with the VFR but right around 30 degrees in November at 11:00PM at night coming home from the ladies which consisted of all highway except for 2 out of the 30 mile ride.

    The bike.

With nothing deflecting the wind it gave me a chill that sunk to the bone

Also with no radiant heat from a sun which I had on the 15 degree day with the VFR, the cold would find it's way through every little crack/seam on my leather jacket.

I have had mine read -9C. And it was cold even for me. Tht's 15.8 F. so I guess my temp guage was just about to say "Fug you. I'm going to bed"

As far as staying warm riding in these temps, it is amazing what a cheap rain suit will do to keep you warm. It prevents the wind from penetrating your riding suit so your body temps will trap inside and keep you fairly warm.

Thats your VFR's way of telling you if it can't gauge the temperature, its too damn cold to be on a motorcycle. 23 is the lowest I have had it, and that was too damn cold:)
