I've been having undercharging issues on my VFR about since I bought it 2 months ago (12.15 v max charging at 5k rpm) and after testing all else I got to the alternator only to find that the plug I expected from the manual appears to be missing? The manual shows pretty clearly an actual connector and plug coming out of coil here, but all I've got are these dinky wires? Am I missing something or is there some kind of jerryrigging going on here? IMG_20220612_2038585.jpg IMG_20220612_2039566.jpg IMG_20220612_2039472.jpg

Ummmm.... You are showing pictures of Ignition Coil number 2 , not the Alternator output wires. You need to find a 3p plug with three yellow wires going to it.

Is this not what I'm looking at? Don't tell me I'm on the wrong side of the bike...

Yes this is what you are looking for, but not what you were looking at! The 3p White connector with three yellow Stator wires is further rearward behind the rear cowl near your R/R, sorry yes above the muffler area on the right side.
    Sorry I don't own a 4th gen.

No worries m8, that drawing can be a little confusing.
Have a very close look at the connector itself for any sign of overheating or burnt connectors. If the stator checks measure ok then a good thing to do is to cut the three wire connector out and solder and sleeve the three wire joins.

I’ve done this with good results in the past, but since it means cutting the repair in order to test stator if needed I now make (new) connections with ends that can be separated, eg small ring terminals held together with a screw & nut, coated liberally with ox-gard
