Your boy sounds like he'll turn out to be a stand-up guy, and he seems pretty bright as well. So how did the whole episode turn out? Has your bike been repaired?

I took this opportunity to install GSG Moto frame sliders and TPO Parts pair block-off plates. Still need cosmetic work on left side but will be riding again soon.
