My first post ever on this website, here's the story: I have a stock 2004 model with ABS and the factory travel cases including the trunk, i.e. a very heavy VFR when loaded for a long road trip. I'm going to upgrade to the LV SBK evo II carbon exhaust, a K&N air filter, and replace the rear fender with a fender eliminator kit. This should help reduce weight and increase HP a bit without affecting fuel mileage or emissions much. Was wondering if anyone with a 6th gen VFR has upgraded their wheels. Apparently, lighter wheels--even lighter brake rotors--can make a noticeable difference in handling, acceleration, and braking--especially at the track. The Marvic and Marchesini wheels are gorgeous (and expensive!), but I have no idea how much lighter they are than the stock wheels--I've just contacted them about it. Also, in looking at the sizes offered for each model wheel, I'm not sure they make wheels that would fit the size tires I have--just bought some Bridgestone 020s for my bike. Anyone have an idea about what this upgrade would involve, whether its worth the money, and whether it can be done maintaining the same size wheels as stock. Any other suggestions for shaving weight and increasing horsepower--besides a PC III and eliminating the oxygen sensor--would also be appreciated.
Not to sound like an A-hole,but I believe the easiest and cheapest way to lose wieght and gain power is to trade in the VFR for a CBR 1000. The '09 has abs....add higher clip-ons and viola!!!!
You definitely have a point. In fact, a while ago Red Rider Magazine had an article about the CBR1000RR as a long distance tourer--and wouldn't you know, it had Heli bars--go figure.
