So I am finally back from my 7 month Mexico trip. Wife sold my old VFR to a guy that is/was on this board while I was away.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a VFR for a good price but I managed to pick this up for a killer price.

2000 YZF600R. Talked the guy down to $1,400 as it needed a new front tire and the fork seals need to be replaced, it also had some road rash but it still had a clean title.

I put a new tire on it and took it for a nice 100 mile trip to compare to the VFR and I was surprised. About the same riding position and IMO just as comfortable. While the VFR has that nice ultra low end grunt the yzf has a very usable power and has a nice kick at about 6k rpms. The VFR power band is definitely smoother though, which I do miss.

The yzf is noticeably lighter and IMO handles the corners better then the VFR. The YZF also has fully adjustable suspension which is definitely nice.

I still admit there is just something about the VFR though. Maybe the music of the V4 gear driven cams engine or the single swingarm. Not really sure.

The YZF also seems really cold blooded compared to the VFR.

Also got something kinda sad in the mail. Whoever bought my VFR didn't do anything at DMV as far as registering it or putting in his name, I got a letter from a local tow yard. I guess he got pulled over and for whatever reason it got towed. I was going to go pull it out but they wanted $1,600. :(

Welcome back! Congrats on your new Yammie. Nice find, esp. at that price.

That's a bike I considered before I bought my VFR. Really liked it, comfy ergos (like you said, very similar to the VFR), and nice power from a 600. It was Yam's flagship 600cc sportbike until the R6 came out.

New ones were affordable, plus there are usually low miles bikes around. I passed on it tho, since I wanted FI & better instrumentation and b/c the insurance rate on it would have been the same as an R6 or Kaw. ZX-6R.

So what's the status on your old VFR? If it's in limbo and you can claim it/get it back by paying the tow/storage bill, offer the tow company 1/4 to 1/2 of their bill. These guys charge outrageous fees/gouge people 'cause they can. If they know they're not gonna get paid anytime soon they might deal on that bill to get the bike out of their yard. Not like it's really costing them anything anyway. It's a complete racket. (Rant off.)

they won't deal...especially if one of the guys in the lot wants the bike....they will wait their time..... until its safe to do a claim on it ..them BAM the dude has a nice bike...

I t happened to the BiL triumph...it had a little rash after the accident but it was fixable tow yard wanted 3500 to get it back...

heres a plan....... but the bike up for sale and be straight about it and see if someone will pay the fees.... you don't make any money but the bike isn't just sitting in a F in tow yard....

Assuming there are still back DMV fees on the bike I won't be able to sell it for $1,600.

They say they are going to lien sale it. I am not sure, but with me still being the owner on file I don't think I can buy it from the lien sale. Not really sure though.

Insurance wasn't really that bad, $150 for 6 months.

FI is really something I would like, I don't really understand why they never put FI on the YZF, I am guessing to keep cost down.

So I called the Tow Yard today to see if I could make a deal. I'm not sure what happened but the guy tells me my name has been removed from the "Interested parties" and that I am no longer liable for the bike.

Which is a good thing considering I won't be responsible for and towing or storage fees. But it also means I don't have any control on what happens to the bike anymore.

Maybe I should show up to the Lien sale :) Maybe I can grab it for dirt cheap. Considering the bike has a salvaged title and last I seen the bike is wasn't winning any beauty contests(busted and missing fairing peaces).
