Well scotch and Whiskey are my favorite drinks and I prodigiously drink those and thought to have fun and share my addiction benefits...

Drinking whisky can help protect you against cancer, a conference of international scientists have heard. Researchers have long hailed the anti-cancer properties of red wine due to its antioxidant content.

Delegates at the EuroMedLab 2005 conference in Glasgow have now been told that whisky contains significantly higher levels of a powerful antioxidant that kills cancer cells.

Dr. Jim Swan, an independent consultant to the worldwide drinks industry, discussed the art and science of whisky distilling, as well as its possible health benefits.

"There has been much inthe news about the health benefits of antioxidants in red wine.

"By contrast, very little has been said about malt whisky distillery science.

"However, research has shown that there are even greater health benefits to people who drink single malt whiskies. Why? Single malt whiskies have more ellagic acid than red wine."

Dr. Swan said that ellagic acid is a highly effective 'free radical scavenger' that actually 'absorbs' or 'eats up' rogue cells that occur in the body during eating.

'The free radicals can break down the DNA structure of our existing cells, which then leads to the risk of the body making replacement rogue cancer cells.

"So, whether you indulge in the odd tipple, or you are a serious connoisseur, whisky can protect you from cancer and science proves it," he said.

Sweet. I have one or two almost every day. Tell me ice cubes won't alter the benefits though

Bourbon for me.........mmmmm......bourbon...tastes good and hits like a freight train.

While I will thank you for the post on the health benefits, most of the benefits I get from my whisky are mental.........

When I did drink, Jack Daniel's was my poison, and lots of it. Neat or over ice. I'm salivating right now. I still miss the great taste. I don't miss the insanity (well, sometimes I do). Never cared for the single malt stuff, though lots of my buddies swore by it.

Ahhh, then you just didn't work hard enough to find the right one! (Not that you should start a new test regiment, if 'insanity' accompanies your whiskey drinking, just saying. Stay on the wagon my friend.)

I have extremely high stressed job and every night without exception I drink 2x 3-4oz over rocks good whiskey.
I love single malt, blends most but little not too crazy about American and Canadian since they tend to be sweeter therefore loaded with calories.
I like the smoke, salty, sweet flavors of Scotch the most but same qualities can be found in Irish Whiskey as well.
For not $$ chunk of change Dewars reg label is fine-slightly sweet but lots of debt.I find JW overrated specially the Black label. For the same amount of money you can buy excellent single malts.
    Some example I love
Laphroaig-very salty with a strong peat flavor
Talisker-pure hard core sex-all screaming-not for mellow guys.
Oban not as smoke but very rich and complex. It opens up real nice with few cubes of ice.
Glenlivet can beat JW black any day and they are both same price range.

Anyway I always explore small unknown distilleries since I like to encourage the small producers.

    Happy drinking

I found out the hard way that Scotch tears up my stomach. Really sucks as I have two bottles of 12 year Glenfarclas now that I cannot drink. Just an expensive decoration. Tried once straight with two ice cubes, and the other was recommeded by a co-worker/bar owner said to dilute it with 7up or something. Still tore me up. Sad, sad.

I am also a big single malt Scotch fan and Glenlivet or Highland Park are the poisons of my choice. I heard lots of good things about Laphroaig but I've only had the cask strength and was not too fond of it.

Oh man, that is terribly sad! You know, I know of a good home for that Glen, where it would be really appreciated...

The real smokey/peety stuff is an acquired taste... Try Talisker's (12yo), it has a real smokey taste, but without the seawater tinge; I find people often like it better then either Lagavulin and Laphroaig.

depends on the body type.I can drink easily 2 shots a day without issues.Alcohol is beneficial calming de-stressing effect,.When stressed your body makes hormone cortisol which is corrosive to cells.
Some people take pills, prozac you name it which become more hazardous to body.
Moderate alcohol consumption is good for the body as recent red wine study shows and Whiskey is even better then red wine.

Sure lot of ignorant social liberals will say otherwise but if you listen to them soon they will ban motorcycle riding all together...

Aaahhh. A resurrection of yet another fine thread.

Presently up in the cabinet, as far as the Scotches go I have a fine variety. There are two fine bottles of Glenlivit 18. A very mellow smooth nip that is. Joining the Glen at the table is the well defined, yet smokey and tall Oban 14. Sitting right next to Mr Oban is the superb Highland Park 18. A sweet gentleman he is. His younger son, Highland Park 12 is absent from the gathering today. Sitting right out front checking the coats is a bottle of Glen Fiddich 12. It belongs in the cloak room at the best of times. Personally I don't think it is much better than a blend. Chivas was once in this establishment but being a blend, it was banished. Dress it up any way you want, it still behaved like a blend. New to this party is a bottle of MaCallans Estate Reserve. His age has been conspicuously absent from the label. A fine gent he is but he remains a neutral safe addition to the party. Non descript you might say but a smooth character for sure. But wait. What is that tucked way in the back and out of sight of most, but Grand Daddy Highland Park 25. What an exquisite old gent he is. He and I are spending quality time together right now. Rumor has it that Great Grand Dad Highland Park 35 may join the party sometime in the future but his expenses are over $300.00 at the duty free so we will have to plan that trip carefully.
