I just bought a helmet for my daughter and it was a real “experience”. Almost no one makes a junior sized helmet and the ones that do exist, don’t fit my daughter. So we had to look at adult sized helmets. We went to CycleGear and had her try on a bunch of stuff from Shoei, Arai, Scorpion, HJC and AGV, but what fit her best was a Bilt brand (Racer model) helmet. Since that brand of helmets is so new, I was hesitant to take a risk on a polycarbonate, DOT only helmet. The Racer model was so new, that they didn’t even have the color (pink of course) she wanted in production yet. When the pink helmet finally came in stock after Christmas, it was wearing an ECE 22.05 sticker. That made me MUCH more comfortable with the helmet. ECE testing is truly random and per production batch, unlike DOT or even SNELL. Overall finish is quite good with the face shield fit clean and flush. My daughter can operate the face shield with a single hand and can also operate both chin and forehead vents with a single, gloved hand. Face shield removal is done easily, by pulling down on a spring loaded clip, closing the face shield one tooth and pulling outward. The lining is removable and the D-ring strap system works well, with a snap to hold the loose end down. I even tried on a size L helmet and found it more comfortable on me than any of the Shoei or Arai helmets in the store. I highly recommend going down to CycleGear and trying one on.
Wow that surprises me. Before my Shoei I had some helmets that were priced like Bilt and I love my Shoei. Definitely makes me think
I was a Shoei fan/wearer for years, but at around the RF-200 model, the shape changed. They would no longer fit my head. I didn't have a bike for many years. When I finally got another one, I discovered KBC helmets. Most helmets are oval shaped, but my head is more round. As such, any Arai and most every Shoei give me headaches. I was quite surprised to find that the Bilt helmets fit me so well. Jose
Well cool man! a quote from my favorite show, Justified : "you tried it on, n' it fits. i get that" i have a very small skull. maybe that's why the shoei works for me. Glad the little girl found one that works. helmet comfort is a big deal in rider comfort! here's to many good and comfy miles on your ride
