    Hi,

I'm soon ready to change my brake fluid on my 1999 VFR and find both the Honda service manual and the Haynes manual confusing. The Honda manual only shows a picture of bleeding the upper bleed valve on the right front caliper for the front brakes, and makes no mention of bleeding both right and left calipers, which I see elsewhere is required. The Haynes manual describes manual but not vacuum bleeding. I've read bits and pieces on here and on VFRdiscussion, but I'm still a bit confused.

In any case...Members here have mentioned draining the old fluid from the reservoir, filling it with new, and sucking the old (and eventually new) fluid through the bleeding valves with a MityVac or other vacuum device. I understand that the negative pressure from the device will avoid air entering the system from the bleeding valves. That makes sense to me.

    My questions are:

    1. Do I need to squeeze the front lever and/or rear pedal at all in this process above? Why or why not?

    2. For the rear brakes, can I just drain the old fluid from the reservoir, fill with new, and suck the old (and eventually new) fluid for each of the five bleed valves?

Many thanks for any thoughts on this and other ideas/tips. Also, if there's a detailed how-to on here (or elsewhere) that I missed, please let me know. Maybe I've read all the info I need on here and I'm making the process too complicated, but I'm still confused.
