So here I'm finally gearing up to do the ever-so-popular CBR600F2 wheel swap on my old 87 VFR, and I find that the VFR brake rotors just won't work on the F2 wheels. Intending to use this to my advantage, I've decided to go ahead and do my planned brake upgrade at the same time. This basically means that I am out looking for a good set of aftermarket front and rear rotors for the F2, and while I'm at it, I'd like to replace all the brake lines with steel braided lines, AND do the line conversion on the front brakes that will eliminate that splitter unit and run both brake lines from their respective front caliper straight to the master cylinder. The questions I have are (a) what aftermarket rotors do most folks use (ie Galfer, EBC, etc.) and what kind of luck have people had with these rotors, (b) where can a set of good aftermarket F2 rotors be found that won't absolutely break the bank, (c) what are good pads to use with aftermarket rotors (I've seen the EBC HH pads seem popular, but will they work with the Galfer Wave rotors?) , and where can they be found at an affordable cost? (d) who sells pre-fabbed sets of brake lines for a conversion such as this, and what would be the manufacturer and part # for the kit?
I just did the F2 swap on a VF500. I used this guy for the SS Lines CBR MOTORCYCLE STAINLESS STEEL 3 BRAKE LINES HOSE KIT | eBay
My '86 has EBC rotors up front (with stock calipers and HH pads), and a stock CBR rotor on the rear. FWIW, I've been using EBC HH pads on every bike for the past twenty-five years. I doubt seriously there is any sort of problem running HH pads on a Galfer rotor.
I have a friend that has a new EBC kit, over sized rotors, caliper stand off's and pads for the F2 front wheel. He may part with them but I am thinking he is gonna wanna get paid what they are worth to. Let me know and I will ask him what he wants to part with them. I have sold a few things on here for him in the past, he is fair but he paid cash for his loot to.
